During my OJT semester, I had the privilege of interning at Vietnam TravelMART,
a leading travel company in Central Vietnam. I worked in the Inbound Department,
where I gained valuable insights into tour operations, including tour design,
itinerary creation, and tour guide contracts. After learning TTS302 - Sustainable
Tourism, I realized that our business already aligns with many sustainable tourism
criterias.

Firstly, concerning environmental impacts, our tours often incorporate eco-friendly

modes of transportation such as cyclos, bicycles, or walking, instead of relying
solely on cars or motorcycles. For instance, in our 9 days 8 nights tour covering Ha
Noi – Sapa – Hue – Hoi An, visitors get to experience the unique charm of Ha Noi
Old Quarter from a cyclo, highlighting Vietnam's distinctive features. Similarly, in
our 12 days 11 nights educational tour in Vietnam for students, participants can
leisurely stroll on islands or bike along village paths in the Mekong Delta,
fostering a deeper connection with nature.

In terms of societal impacts, Vietnam TravelMART offers experiential and

educational tour programs. These tours provide opportunities for tourists to learn
practical skills such as obtaining fresh water from seawater or crafting items from
natural materials. Moreover, visits to heritage sites and traditional craft villages,
coupled with insightful guides, serve as effective means to preserve and promote
local culture and destinations.
Regarding economic impacts, each tour itinerary incorporates visits to local night
markets and stores offering authentic handicrafts and souvenirs. This not only
enriches the tourist experience but also contributes significantly to the economic
development of host communities.

To further enhance and develop Vietnam TravelMART's business in a sustainable

manner, several strategies can be considerated. One critical aspect is encourage
tourists to choose low-impact accommodation options such as eco-lodges,
homestays, or community-based tourism initiatives. Moreover, we can implement
measures to minimize resource consumption and waste generation throughout the
travel supply chain. On the other hand, organizing a sustainable workshop on local
tourism destination development to create diversity in local attractions and increase
income for locals. Last but not least, leveraging technology and innovation can
enable us to stay at the forefront of sustainable tourism practices. Embracing
digital platforms for booking and communication can streamline operations and
reduce paper waste.

In summary, my OJT semester at Vietnam TravelMART has provided me with

valuable lessons and experiences in tour operations and the application of
sustainable strategies in tour programs. I believe that if the company continues to
implement and develop these strategies, focusing on sustainable tourism, the
company will continue to thrive and grow stronger over time. This is also our way
of contributing to the protection and sustainable development of the tourism
industry.
