SECMO-CP overview

1 SECMO-CP overview
The SECMO-CP is a processor board based on Pentium M Dothan
processor with a 600 MHz–1.8 GHz clock.

Main functions of SECMO-CP

The Security Module (SECMO-CP) is used as a computing engine for

security related features in theTETRA DXTip/DXTTip network elements.

Operating environment of SECMO-CP

The SECMO-CP is used in DX 200 based network elements with i-series

mechanics, for example in HLRi. The operating environment of the
SECMO-CP is presented in the figure below.

SECMO-CP

The SECMO-CP has two interrupt signal lines connected to the host CPU
via the backplane.

The SECMO-CP is connected via an Embedded PCI/PCI Bridge to the

backplane and from thereon with the host CPU according to the
CompactPCI bus specifications.

The SECMO-CP is supplied +5 V and 3.3 V operating voltages via the

backplane.

2 Capacity and performance of SECMO-CP

The Pentium® M Dothan Mobile module is used as the central processor
unit. The processor core of the SECMO-CP includes:

. 600 MHz–1.8 GHz Pentium® M Dothan processor

.
2 MB Level-2 cache on processor die
. Intel E7501 MCH Host bridge
. 256 MB DDR SDRAM soldered board
. 8 MB boot FLASH ( expandable to 16 MB if required).

3 Structure of SECMO-CP

3.1 Mechanical structure of SECMO-CP

The SECMO-CP pug-in unit is a 6U non-host processor board inside a DX
200 CompactPCI Cartridge. The SECMO-CP is based on a double size
Eurocard (height 233 mm, depth 220 mm). It occupies two card slots
(width ~ 40 mm).

The GEM module of the SECMO-CP performs functions for DXTip/

DXTTip.

3.2 Logical structure of SECMO-CP

The SECMO-CP plug-in unit contains a 600 MHz–1.8 GHz Intel Pentium®
M Dothan processor, the Intel E7501 MCH Host Bridge and 2 Mbytes of L2
cache on die. The processor is connected to the Intel E7501 MCH Host
bridge via a 64-bit Host bus.

The Intel E7501 MCH Host bridge connects the processor to the main
DDR SDRAM memory and through ICH3-S to the onboard PCI bus.

The host bus runs with 400MHz and memory buses run with 200MHz
while the PCI bus runs with 33 MHz. The AGP is not supported on
SECMO-CP.

The main memory is implemented by assembling 256 MB DDR SDRAM to

SECMO-CP PWB. Different memory amounts are possible with assembly
options. The SECMO-CP supports synchronous DRAM with ECC support.
ECC error detection case is reported by generating NMI.

The authentification function is implemented as follows: SECMO-CP

hardware supports most UMTS or GSM authentification algorithms. Some
additional algorithms are supported with software. Hardware support for
algorithms is realized with two FPGAs.

Security function is implemented as follows: Due to the confidential nature

of data handled in SECMO-CP, the plug-in unit is protected both physically
and logically.

Primary I/O address space

The primary I/O range contains the following DMX related I/O devices:

. watchdog timer reset

. three 825C4 compatible timers

In addtion to the devices mentioned above, the primary I/O address space
contains several registers which show, for example, plug-in unit
identification, various statuses, and interrupt flags.

Secondary I/O address space

The secondary I/O address space contains the random number generator
needed for authentification function and registers for host CPU warm reset
and registers for SECMO-CP NMI and test control.

Watchdog timer and resetting

The watchdog can be either programmable (warm reset) or initial hardware

watchdog (cold reset). The Programmable watchdog is implemented with
a timer (timer 0 counter 0). The counter is reset with a read operation to I/O
address 131h in the primary I/O range. The reset time interval can be
programmed to be from 1 ms up to 54 s. The programmable watchdog
output is blocked after reset. The first read operation to address 131h will
enable output to activate the reset sequence.

There is an additional control circuitry (initial hardware watchdog) that will

cause a new reset if the programmable watchdog counter is not reset
within 419 ms after the unit has been reset (either INIT or true reset). The
initial watchdog will cause a cold reset - in which case the NMI interrupt
must not be generated. The first read operation to address 131h after boot
up disables this initial hardware watchdog.

SECMO-CP plug-in unit is reset because of the following reasons:

Structure of SECMO-CP

. power up / power failure (cold reset)

. initial hardware watchdog (cold reset)
. programmable watchdog (warm reset)
.
the CompactPCI bus reset signal goes active (warm reset)
. the host CPU performs a SECMO-CP specific warm reset operation
.
the host CPU performs a SECMO-CP specific hard reset operation

Timers

There are three timers. The timer clock signals are generated from an
onboard 20 MHz oscillator and used for generating the operating system
interrupt and for generating interrupts that the application software needs.

Interrupts

There are the following interrupt signals on the SECMO-CP:

.
two interrupt signals the SECMO-CP issues to the host CPU
. two interrupts for authentification
.
random number generator
. ePCI interrupt
.
UART0
. counter interrupt
. 100 Hz clock interrupt.

In addition to the interrupt signals mentioned above, the interrupt signals

from the PMC connectors are connected to the interrupt controller. The
interrupt controller is implemented within the ICH3–S APIC.

3.3 Principle of operation of SECMO-CP

The Pentium M Dothan processor of the SECMO-CP executes the
program loaded into the DRAM memory of the plug-in unit from the
CompacPCI bus.

Front panel

The front panel of the SECMO-CP has cooling fins and openings for heat
pipes whose other ends are attached to the heat sink covering the Pentium
M Dothan processor and Intel E7501 MCH host bridge but it has neither
LED indicators nor switches (see the figure below).

Backplane

The SECMO-CP is connected to the system by HM2 (Hard Metric)

connectors. Data is transferred between SECMO-CP and the host
processor unit of the same cartridge via the CompactPCI bus on the back
plane. SECMO-CP is connected to the CompactPCI bus on the backplane
with an embedded PCI/PCI Bridge. In addition, SECMO-CP has two
interrupt lines to the host processor unit connected via the back plane as
well.

Power consumption of SECMO-CP

5 Power consumption of SECMO-CP

SECMO-CP receives the +5V and +3.3V supply voltages through
backplane connectors. V(I/O) pins can also be used for 3.3V supply.

The total power consumption of the SECMO-CP with a Pentium M Dothan

processor and a 600 MHz–1.8 GHz clock is minimum of 14 W and
maximum of 18 W for 256 MB of SDRAM memory (using 256 Mbit
technology).
