WISH CLAUSE (Câu ước)

1. DEFINITION
“Wish” trong tiếng Anh có nghĩa là “ước”, là “chúc”. Vì thế, cấu trúc với wish là cấu trúc
dùng để diễn tả mong muốn, ước muốn của ai đó.
2. USAGE AND STRUCTURE
2.1. Cấu trúc wish ở hiện tại
Khẳng định: S + wish(es) + (that) + S + V_ed
Phủ định: S + wish(es) + (that) + S + did not + V
Example: She wishes that she washed her car more carefully.
John wishes he didn’t see her on the street
Chú ý: Động từ TO BE ở câu ước của thì hiện tại sử dụng WERE với tất cả các chủ ngữ
Động từ khuyết thiếu CAN sẽ viết là COULD
Example: I wish I were rich.
I wish I could swim
2.2. Cấu trúc wish thì tương lai
Khẳng định: S + wish(es) + (that) + S + would/could + V
Phủ định: S + wish(es) + (that) + S + would/could + not + V
Example: I wish I would be an astronaut in the future.
2.3. Cấu trúc wish thì quá khứ
Khẳng định: S + wish(es) + S + had + PP
Phủ định: S + wish(es) + S + hadn’t + PP
Example: I wish I hadn’t failed my exam last year.
3. IF ONLY (Giá mà) = WISH
 She wishes that she washed her car more carefully = If only (that) she washed her car
more carefully
 We wish that we would join their party next week = If only (that) we would join their
party next week
 I wish I hadn’t failed my exam last year = If only (that) I hadn’t failed my exam last
year.
