Introduction
About The Lab Activity PAGE 03

The systematic grouping of related items according to their

relationships and their distinguishing traits is known as
classification. Things are arranged in an orderly manner when
they are systemized. A system of names used in a specific
discipline is known as nomenclature. A standardized
nomenclature assumes that the things within that field are
categorized in an orderly manner.
Objectives PAGE 04

The objectives of the lab activity are as follows:

1. Classify individuals into genera and species.
2. Name species according to rules of nomenclature

Bolts and Nuts

in the image were used in the
lab activity.

We measured and observed each

of the given bolts. Each member
of the group had their own
responsibility when conducting
the lab activity.

The given materials

The group was given 10 distinct bolts and we

classified them by their characteristics such as
their pileus shape, their length, their color, etc.

The group was able to apply the rules of

nomenclature to the 10 distinct bolts by their
characteristics such as their pileus shape, their length,
their color, etc.

We were able to illustrate taxonomy using

classification, nomenclature, and the
dichotomous keys in this activity. We
categorized the provided information using
these concepts by their various qualities and
epithets.
From the given materials, we were able to
construct a flowchart that showcased the
steps into the differentiation of the bolts.

Based from flow chart, we were able to make the 3 dichotomous

keys, the Indented dichotomous key, the Bracketed dichotomous
key, and the serial or numbered dichotomous key.
Conclusion PAGE 12

In conclusion, the activity given has successfully reached the specified

objectives pertaining to the classification of individuals into genera
and species using bolts and nails, as well as the precise nomenclature
of species along with epithets. The activity that was undertaken,
involving the use of dichotomous keys and the application of
systematic concepts, has produced a profound understanding of the
intricacy of the classification process.
