I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Department of Library and Information
Science for organizing the library visit and Community engagement program. I take this
opportunity to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation to all those who have helped
me directly or indirectly towards the successful completion of this report.

The report is on “LIBRARY VISIT” and “COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMME” which is

in syllabus of 1st semester MASTERS OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE, paper-
LISCCEC 506 COMMUNITY INFORMATION SERVICES (Compulsory Community Engagement).

I have tried my best to present all information as clearly as possible using basic terms and I
hope that, will be comprehended by all.

I extend my appreciation to all the faculty members and staff for their support and guidance
throughout this endeavour expresses my sincere thanks to Professor Dr. Mukut Sarmah,
Head of the Department of Library and Information Science, Assam University, Silchar, for
their valuable insights and assistance in coordinating this program. I also acknowledge the
contribution of the librarians and community members who participated and shared their
knowledge and experiences with us and helped me in guiding the right path for the
inception till the successful completion of the project.

4. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This report is based on “LIBRARY VISIT” and “COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM”

organized by the Department of Library and Information Science, Assam University, Silchar.
The library visit was on 29th Decmeber 2024 at Central Library “Rabindra Library” or
“Rabindra Granthaghar” of Assam Universaity,Silchar guided by Dr. Mukut Sarmah Head of
the Department of Library and Information Science .And community engagement program
was held on 30th december 2024 at 46 no Mechipur L.P school, Cachar Assam 788117, This
school Was Established In The Year 1934. We The Student of Assam University Department
of Library and Information Science, 1st Semester and All Faculty Members, the Dean of
Swami Vivekananda School of Library Sciences, The Head Of The Department And Assistant
Professors And All The Research Scholars has Organized A Community Engagement Program
with the help of Deputy Manager K.S. of Rosekandy tea estate, Which Is In Our Syllabus
Under NATIONAL EDUCATION POLICY 2020, (Paper-LISCCEC 506) COMMUNITY
INFORMATION SERVICES. It was a great initiative taken by our department. Because
libraries tours are provided to familiarize students with the library and its resources and
services. Library provides students with the information literally skills necessary for
effectively finding, using, evaluating information. They are a great place to gain knowledge
and information. They serve each user equally and give great services with abundance of
knowledge. They are a great source of learning and promoting the process of knowledge.
They provide information, resources and connection to the world at large.

And Community engagement programme aims to connect and built relationship with local
communities and address community needs in all aspects of decision-making, policy
development and implementation to strengthen local ownership, capacities and community
structures as well as to improve transparency, accountability and optimal resource
allocations across diverse settings. The programme fostered a sense of unity and
empowerment among participants, contributing to a stronger and more connected
community.
