Steve Leyton is President of Protection Design & Consulting in San Diego, CA.
He began his career in 1981 on the design/build contracting side of fire sprinklers
industry and founded PD&C in 1995.
Professional affiliations include NFPA, ICC, American Fire Sprinkler Association,
National Fire Sprinkler Association, California Fire Prevention Officers Northern and
Southern Sections, and San Diego Fire Protection Association.
He represents AFSA as a principal member of NFPA 14 and NFPA 13D/13R
Technical Committees was Chair of the Installation Committee for California State
Fire Marshal’s 2009 Residential Sprinkler Code Adoption Task Group and Co-Chair
of the ICC Ad-Hoc Committee on Residential Fire Sprinklers.
Steve has worked on all manner of residential, commercial/ industrial, institutional
and high-rise projects in the United States, Mexico and Asia.
Throughout his career, he has engaged in teaching and research in industrial sectors
to bring tangible engineering solutions to real-time problems.
He is experienced and highly proficient in several areas of engineering including
environmental, sustainability, renewable energy, occupational health & safety, and fire
safety. His experience goes beyond teaching to include 23 years of real-time industry
engagement in research, design, technical due diligence, and efficiency projects in
manufacturing.
His ability to connect stakeholders through common goals allowed him to find funding
for profit and non-profit projects.
Creating successful enterprises made significant day-to-day differences which instilled
value-added outcomes, encouraging stakeholders to continue funding the projects.
His achievements served to demonstrate to a wide variety of industries how interactive
projects can boost business to benefit both the top and bottom lines.
He speaks English and Turkish fluently.
Starting from 1978 and as an assistant for the first three years, Mr. Sari served as the
Inspector of Occupational Safety for a total of 15 years for the Ministry of Labor and
Social Security in Ankara and Izmir Inspectorate Departments.
He resigned from the Ministry in 1992 to continue his career in private sector. He was
appointed in Philip Morris Turkey Project in the same year. He has worked for Philsa
Philip Morris Sabancı A.S. as Occupational Health & Safety Executive for more than
12 years. He has recently retired from Philsa in 2005. Then he started working in
Health & Safety Consultancy for ERGON as its CEO.
He has achieved many projects, tasks, and studies EHS and Fire Safety basis for Philsa
and Philip Morris Affiliates and ERGON HSE Inc. in Turkey and different countries
during the service years.
His professionalism has been registered by the International Safety Council with
Advanced Occupational Health & Safety Certificate. He is currently member of ASSE
(The American Society of Safety Engineers) and NFPA (National Fire Protection
Association).
