Steve Leyton
Steve Leyton is President of Protection Design & Consulting in San Diego, CA.
He began his career in 1981 on the design/build contracting side of fire sprinklers
industry and founded PD&C in 1995.
Professional affiliations include NFPA, ICC, American Fire Sprinkler Association,
National Fire Sprinkler Association, California Fire Prevention Officers Northern and
Southern Sections, and San Diego Fire Protection Association.
He represents AFSA as a principal member of NFPA 14 and NFPA 13D/13R
Technical Committees was Chair of the Installation Committee for California State
Fire Marshal’s 2009 Residential Sprinkler Code Adoption Task Group and Co-Chair
of the ICC Ad-Hoc Committee on Residential Fire Sprinklers.
Steve has worked on all manner of residential, commercial/ industrial, institutional
and high-rise projects in the United States, Mexico and Asia.

Steve halen NFPA, ICC, AFSA, NFSA, CFPO ve SDFPA kuruluşlarında profesyonel
aktif üyedir.
Steve NFPA13 ve NFPA14 konularında AFSA’nın asli üyesi olarak CCSFM de
konutlardaki sprinklers standardının uyumu için oluşturulmuş çalışma grubuna
Başkanlık yapmış ve ICC Ad-Hoc komitesinde Başkan Yardımcılığı görevinde
bulunmuştur.
Steve, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri, Meksika ve Asya’da konut, endüstri, eğitim ve
yüksek yapı projelerinde yangın tasarımcısı, mühendis, danışman, denetmen ve
uygulayıcı olarak görev yapmıştır.

safety. His experience goes beyond teaching to include 23 years of real-time industry
engagement in research, design, technical due diligence, and efficiency projects in
manufacturing.

Creating successful enterprises made significant day-to-day differences which instilled
value-added outcomes, encouraging stakeholders to continue funding the projects.
His achievements served to demonstrate to a wide variety of industries how interactive

imkanı olmuştur. Özellikle EHS, Çevre Mühendisliği, Yenilebilir Enerji, Tehlikeli
Maddeler, ve Yangın Güvenliği gibi konularda yüksek seviyede tecrübeye sahip
uzmanldır. 23 yılı aşkın bir süredir aktif olarak endüstriyel sektörlerde araştırma,
dizayn, teknik incelemeler, ve verimlilik üzerine çok sayıda uygulamaları vardır.
Özellikle, projenin basarılı olmasında öne çıkan bütçe, kaynak ve insan yönetimi
konularında deneyim sahibi olması, profesyonel hayatındaki başarıları getirmiştir.

He is founder of ERGON Health Safety & Environment Inc. in Turkey.
Starting from 1978 and as an assistant for the first three years, Mr. Sari served as the
Inspector of Occupational Safety for a total of 15 years for the Ministry of Labor and
Social Security in Ankara and Izmir Inspectorate Departments.
He resigned from the Ministry in 1992 to continue his career in private sector. He was
appointed in Philip Morris Turkey Project in the same year. He has worked for Philsa
Philip Morris Sabancı A.S. as Occupational Health & Safety Executive for more than
12 years. He has recently retired from Philsa in 2005. Then he started working in
Health & Safety Consultancy for ERGON as its CEO.
He has achieved many projects, tasks, and studies EHS and Fire Safety basis for Philsa
and Philip Morris Affiliates and ERGON HSE Inc. in Turkey and different countries
during the service years.
His professionalism has been registered by the International Safety Council with
Advanced Occupational Health & Safety Certificate. He is currently member of ASSE
(The American Society of Safety Engineers) and NFPA (National Fire Protection
Association).
He has solid and realistic harmonized knowledge and experience on Occupational

Health and Safety, and Fire Safety gained through his industrial practices in the
government, and private sector in international codes and standards.
He will participate in the courses as facilitator when needed.

What is NFPA 13?

The industry benchmark for design and installation of automatic fire sprinkler
systems, NFPA 13 addresses sprinkler system design approaches, system installation,
and component options to prevent fire deaths and property loss.
Comprehensive requirements include sprinkler system design, installation, and
acceptance testing; hanging and bracing systems; underground piping; and seismic
protection in line with SEI/ASCE 7. NFPA 13 also includes provisions for special
storage arrangements.

What is NFPA 20?

NFPA 20 protects life and property by providing requirements for the selection and
installation of pumps to ensure that systems will work as intended to deliver adequate
and reliable water supplies in a fire emergency.
Criteria address the full range of issues and apply to all types of pumps including those
for high-rise buildings, centrifugal, vertical shaft turbine-type, and positive
displacement.

What is NFPA 25?

NFPA 25 is the baseline for inspection, testing, and maintenance of water-based fire
protection systems. Compliance helps maximize system integrity to avoid failure and
ensure fast, effective response in a fire emergency.
The Standard governs the periodic inspection, testing, and maintenance of water-
based fire protection systems including land-based and marine applications.
Requirements are provided for standpipe systems including hose outlets, fire pumps,
sprinklers, fire service piping, and valves, along with system impairment handling and
reporting (red-tag).
