ABOLISH SCHOOL HAIRCUT POLICY!

Schools are seen as important institutions that shape the minds and characters of future
generations. However, in the pursuit of discipline and uniformity, most of schools enforce strict
haircut policies, stifling individuality and limiting personal expression. In school, the haircut that
the student must follow is the 3x2 cut also known as “barber’s cut”. The issue of school haircut
policies has long been a subject of debate among students, parents, and educators. While some
argue that these policies promote discipline and uniformity, I firmly believe that they are
outdated and unnecessary.

I believe that implementing a haircut policy in school is unnecessary because hair length
doesn’t affect the academic performance of a student. There is no evidence suggesting a
correlation between the length of one's hair and their grades. In simpler terms, the style or length
of one's hair should never be a factor in assessing someone's intelligence. Additionally, a person's
hairstyle reflects their personality, culture, and identity, serving as a unique form of self-
expression. Strict school haircut policies unintentionally stifle this natural outlet, limiting
students' ability to authentically express themselves. Moreover, Students who deviate from the
established haircut norms may become targets for teasing or bullying. Also, these students may
face judgment and a feeling that they are being isolated from others. These can result in such
negative experiences and can have long-lasting effects on mental health, including increased
anxiety, depression, and a sense of insecurity.

Schools might consider adopting a policy that grants students the freedom to choose their
hairstyles within the boundaries of decency. As long as a student maintains a neat and
respectable appearance with their chosen hairstyle, it should be permissible. Allowing
individuals the freedom to decide how they present themselves seems fair, as we all have
personal preferences on our appearance. Everyone wants to look their best as it reflects self-care
and is a means of expressing our individuality. Therefore, there shouldn't be obstacles preventing
us from showcasing who we truly are to others.
