The Title Page:

Font size: The University of Bamenda, the names of the School/Faculty, the Department, the title
and the name of the author are all in font size 14. The rest of the elements are in font size 12.

Typing:

 The University of Bamenda, the names of the School/Faculty, the Department, author,
supervisor(s), the title and the month and year of submission are in uppercase and bolded.
 The statement “A Dissertation submitted….” Is italicized and only the words “Dissertation”,
the names of the Degree or Diploma, Department, Faculty/School and the Discipline are
capitalized, that is starting with the capital letters.
 Registration number shall be written as: Registration N°: xxx, bolded.
 Previous qualification is in brackets, not bolded.

Character Type: it is Times New Roman and it is used throughout the text.

Line spacing:

 Where an element carries more than one line, single spacing shall be used.
 The space between the logo and the title “The University of Bamenda” is 1.5cm.
 The logo of The University of Bamenda is colored and centrally located.

Alignment: The work on this page is centralized. That is, all four (4) margins are equal.

2. The Copyright Page:

The statement for copyright shall be centered qt the bottom of the page, single spaced at font size 12
with only the name of the author bolded.

3. Other preliminary pages (Declaration, Certification, Dedication, Acknowledgements,


Abstract, Resume):

 They shall appear on separate pages in the order given by the Guide.
 On the Declaration and Certification pages, the name of the author and the title shall be in
lower case and bolded with the first letters capitalized.

4. Table of Contents:

 Line spacing: 1.5 single spacing if a title occupies more than a line.
 Page numbers and titles/subtitles of the work shall be linked using a series of dots.
 All chapter titles are in uppercase and bolded
 All subtitles are lowercase, important words capitalized, bolded and numbered accordingly.
This applies throughout the text.
 If the work has appendix(ces), mention shall be made at the end of the table of contents.
5. List of tables, figures, abbreviations, photos and plates

 Each of these lists shall be presented on a separate page


 For tables and figures: the list shall indicate the pages where they appear inside the work
 For tables: the caption is written above it, numbered in Arabic
 For figures: the caption is written below it, numbered in Arabic

6. Some generalities

 Font size throughout the text apart from the title page is 12
 The character type Times New Roman applies throughout the text
 Space between chapter title and text is 1.5 cm
 Tables, figures and other graphics: insert at least 3 single spaced lines of space above table
captions and below figure captions and other graphics
 Lines of text must be 1.5 or double spaced
 The space between the text and page number for page numbering at the bottom centre of the
page is 1.5 or double spaced
 Margins apply only for numbered pages: 3.5cm to the left of the page and 2.5 cm on the other
three edges
 For tables, figures and appendices: when a table/figure/appendix continues onto subsequent
pages, the caption Table x (continued), Figure x (continued) or Appendix x (continued) shall
be used respectively.
 Bibliography: Faculties and Schools shall inform the library on their specific guidelines
(APA, MLA, Vancouver, Chicago, British Standard …)
