BASiC SKILLS IN BADMINTON
GRIP
• Forehand grip: This grip is used to hit shots that are
on the forehand side of your body and around the
head shots. (Place your playing hand on the handle
as if you are shaking hands with it.)
• Backhand grip: This grip is used to hit shots that are
on the backhand side of your body. (Place your thumb
against the back bevel of the handle for greater
leverage and power.)
FOREHAND GRIP

BACKHAND GRIP
SERVice
• High Serve - is a powerful strike upwards with the
shuttle, that aims to travel a great distance upwards
and fall deep at the rear end of the court.
(Forehand Serve)
• Low Serve - is almost a gentle tap over the net with
the shuttle, with the aim of flying just over the net,
yet falling just over the front line of his service court.
(Backhand Serve)
FOOTWORK
You must continuously adapt your pace to that
of the shuttlecock. Due to the little space
available to the players, excellent footwork is
important. You will be able to preserve energy
and confront shots coming from any direction if
you use appropriate footwork.
Stance
• Defensive Stance: When you’re on a defensive stance, you
can cover wider angles. You’ll find it a lot easier to retrieve
smashes hit to your body, left hand side, or right hand side.

• Attacking Stance: Hitting forehand strokes via the attacking

stance enables you to hit powerful shots. It also enables you to
recover quickly after you perform your shot.

• Net Stance: The net stance enables you to take the shuttle
at the highest point when you’re at the net.
Strokes
Overhead forehand – the most common we
see, the first to learn.
Overhead backhand – many people’s main
weakness.
Underarm forehand – a low shot on the
forehand side.
Underarm backhand – a low shot on the
backhand side.
SHOTs
Clear Shot – Aim of this shot is to let the shuttle
fly high in the air and land at your opponent’s
back court.
Smash – It can be used when the shuttle is high
in the air and can be angled downwards.
Drop – It is used when the shuttle is heading
towards you in the back court, the player must
hit downward towards the opponent’s fore-court,
aiming for it to go just over the net.
Rules/Regulations
A match consists of the best of three games to 21 points.
Every time there is a serve, one point is scored.
If the score is 20-20, the individual or team must win by two
points to win the game.
In terms of serving, at the beginning of the game when the
score is 0-0 or if the server’s score is even, they will serve
from the right service court. However, when the server’s
score is odd, they will serve from the left service court.
The rally is over once the shuttlecock contacts the floor, does
not return over the net, or lands outside the court lines.

GREAT DAY!
