Writing Task: Immigrants in a new country.


Directions: Write a discursive essay based on the general topic given in paragraph 1. As the essay
consists of 4 paragraphs, i.e. introduction (paragraph 1), body (paragraphs 2 and 3) and conclusion
(paragraph 4), you should continue writing the essay. Therefore, what you must complete in this
task is the body and the conclusion of the essay.

Do not forget that the discursive essay consists of the following criteria:

 Introduction It has the general topic of the essay (it is already given here) and is
divided into two sentences, either simple or compound sentences.

 Body 3 – 5 sentences can be written here. There are two paragraphs.

 Paragraph 1 It shows one advantage of the general topic.

 Paragraph 2 It provides one disadvantage of the general topic.

 Conclusion It has 2 sentences. An appropriate connector should be given at the


beginning of this paragraph as, for instance: On balance; In
conclusion; To sum up; Finally; All in all; Summarizing; On the
whole; In brief; By and large; In summary; All things considered;
After all; etc.

 Topic Immigration
 The general topic There could be several reasons why people leave their homeland and
life behind in order to start afresh in a new country. Understanding the
complexities of immigration can foster empathy and support for
immigrants as they adapt to unfamiliar environments.
