Summarize (in your own words) how the Canadian healthcare system is organized and funded
(explain the Canada Health Act, the roles and responsibilities of Federal and Provincial
Governments and how healthcare is funded).

INTRODUCTION:-
The Canadian government is spending the highest amount of funding in the
healthcare system at around 80%. In 2020, $301.5 billion spending it’s like $7,932 per person
and almost 13.7% of GDP.Moreover 13th rank in all over world who is spending more money
in the healthcare system.The source of funding for health care in canada is 70.4% for public
and 29.6% for private.

CANADA HEALTH ACT:-


There are five principles.
1)Public Administration
2)Comprehensiveness
3)Universality
4)Portability
5)Accessibility

1)Public Administration:-
The provincial and territorial plans must be administered and operated on a not for profit basis
by a public authority.

2)Comprehensiveness:-
The provincial and territorial plans must insure all medically necessary services provided by

● physicians
● dentists, when the service must be performed in a hospitals

Medically necessary services are undefined in the Canada Health Act. They decide which
services are medically necessary for health care insurance purposes.

3)Universality:-
The provincial and territorial plans must cover all residents on the same level.

4)Portability:-
The provincial and territorial plans must cover all residents when they travel within Canada or
else outside canada.Limited coverage is also required for travel outside the nation.When a
resident moves to another state, they can continue to use their original health care insurance
card for 3 months. This gives them some amount of time to register for the new plan and
receive their new health insurance card.

5)Accessibility:-
The provincial and territorial plans must provide all residents reasonable access to medically
