WHERE IS KANAZAWA?
Kanazawa is the largest and capital city of Ishikawa perfecture, in the central region of Honshu
Island.

Ishikawa is known for different types of arts:

- Noh ( 能 ), a form of dance-drama

- tea ceremonies ( 茶道 or 茶の湯 )

Kanazawa is 468,64 km², with about 466,000 residents.

It’s also the biggest gold leaf producer in the country.


WHY VISIT KANAZAWA?

Cherry blossoms are everywhere across


Japan in early spring, but Kanazawa is
one of the more celebrated spots,
especially because of Kenrouken Garden
( 兼六園 ).
Kanazawa has a lot of historical and cultural
- traditional
importance, being the capital of Ishigawa perfecture

and surviving WW2 without much damage to its
architecture

As a traditional town, Kanazawa has three well-preserved
chaya (teahouse) districts:

- tea/geisha and Higashi Chayagai ( 東茶屋街 ),

Nishi Chayagai ( 西茶屋街 )


samurai districts
and Kazuemachi ( 主計町茶屋街 )

And one former samurai district: Nagamachi ( 長町 ).

Kanazawa has both a traditional and a modern side.

There’s the museum of 21st century contemporary art, Yoshiro


- museums and Yoshio Taniguchi Museum of Architecture for a bit of a
more present-day atmosphere, but there are museums in older,
feudal-era homes.
