Question 11 of 64

Semimembranosus is innervated by which of the following?

Peroneal nerve 5%

Tibial nerve 10%

Sciatic nerve 68%

Lumbar plexus (L1-L3) 5%

Femoral nerve 12%

The hamstrings are the muscles of the posterior compartment of the

thigh. They are biceps femoris laterally and semimembranosus and
semitendinosus medially.

All the muscles of the posterior compartment are innervated by the

sciatic nerve. Biceps femoris also has innervation from the peroneal
(AKA Fibular nerve - a branch of the sciatic) nerve (short head peroneal,
long head tibial)

The biceps are knee flexors and sprain or tearing of these result in
weakness and stiffness of knee flexion.
