COURSE INFORMATION
1. Course Number : CRI 121
2. Course Name : INTRODUCTION TO PHILIPPINE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM
3. Course Description : This course deals with the study of formal and informal components
of the Criminal Justice System of the Philippines. It covers the respective mandates, processes,
and interrelations in the administration of criminal justice and the other forms of justice system.
This course is structured in accordance with the esteemed standards outlined in the PQF/AQRF,
ensuring its alignment with recognized framework for college of criminal justice education.

8. Program Educational Objectives (PEO) of BS Criminology:
Within five years after graduation, UM Criminology graduates are expected to:
1. Demonstrate competence in research and inquiry on the nature, causes, treatment, or
punishment of criminal behavior and how criminal justice agencies function and respond to
crime, criminals and victims.
2. Practice knowledge and skills in crime prevention, law enforcement, scientific crime
detection, correctional administration, public safety, and allied fields.

f. During major examinations, students must wear a plain white t-shirt or a prescribed college
shirt.
g. Students who failed to take the first, second, or third exams for valid reasons are given special
exams to be scheduled and administered by the dean’s office within the allowed period. Valid
reasons are limited only to the following: no permits, medical reasons, and the death of an
immediate family member (parents and siblings). Students who failed to take the special
exams will have zero as a score. For special exams in the final exam, the only valid reasons are
medical reasons and the death of a family member. Proof of these reasons shall be required.
h. Students who failed to submit course requirements (research, assignments, etc.) within the
reasonable period agreed between the teacher and students shall be given zero as a score in
the requirement.
i. All students shall be required to obtain a copy of the approved textbook indicated in the
course outline and must bring the same every session.
j. Cheating is strictly prohibited. Any form of dishonesty shall be dealt with accordingly. Honesty
is always called for.
k. Regularly check Blackboard Learn courses for activities, assignments, requirements, and
announcements. Be mindful with due dates of submissions.
l. The use of cellular phones, electronic gadgets, or scientific calculators is not allowed during
classes and examinations unless permitted by the teacher.
m. Taking pictures and/or video recording while classes are going on is strictly prohibited unless
permitted by the teacher.
n. Base-15 grading policy should be observed. Students who obtained failing scores in major
exams are recommended to undergo the STAR program.
o. Proper dress code, prescribed haircut, no facial hair such as beard and mustaches, no wearing
of earrings for male students, and no dyed hair for all students are strictly observed.
p. Keep the classroom or learning environment orderly and free from litter and waste.
q. Eating inside the classroom is strictly prohibited. Students may be allowed to bring bottled
water.
r. Cheating, plagiarism, and all forms of academic dishonesty are expressly forbidden in this
course, and by the university’s Policy on Academic Integrity. Examples of such violations
include but not limited to:
a. collusion, purchasing, or commissioning assessment task/research paper.
b. copying verbatim from a research article/book/journal/etc.
c. copying verbatim from generative AI, such as ChatGPT.
d. falsifying or inventing any information, data, or citation; and
e. false representation.
