Ohm’s Law

- How are current ( I ) and voltage ( V ) affected if one of them changes?

Ohm’s Law: Resistance = Voltage/Current ( R = V/I )

- Ohm’s law says that current is directly proportional to voltage as long as resistance and
temperature stay the same.
- Directly proportional: if voltage triples, current triples too ( and vice versa )

Solve for V:

R = V/I

R * I = V/I * I

IR = V

V = IR

Solve for I:

R = V/I

R = V/I * I

R*I=V

I * R / R = V/R

I = V/R

Extra:

Solve for T:

Q = cT

Q = Tc / c

Q/c=T/c*c

Q/c = T

T = Q/c

Solve for C:

Q = mct
Q / T m = mct /tm

Q/Tm = c

C = Q/Tm

Solve for V:

P = nRT/v

P = v * nRT

P /TRN = v * nRT /T R N

P/TRN = V

V = P/TRN

Solve for R:

L = QRs / xw

L /w * x = QRs / xw /wx

L/wx /sQ = QRs /sQ

L/wx/sQ = R

R = L/wx/sQ

Ohm’s Law

R=v/I

V = rI

I = v/r

Ex. A stove is connected to a 240v outlet. If the current is 20 amps, what is the resistance? Use GRASS!

G = iven V = 240v, I = 20A

R = equired R=?

A = nalysis R = V/I

S = olve = 240v/20A, = 12 Ohms

S = tatment :. The resistance is 12 Ohms

Ex. A current of 0.75A passes through a bulb with a voltage of 3.0V. What is the resistance? Use GRASS!

G= V = 3v, I = 0.75A

R= R=?

A= R = V/I

S= = 3v/0.75a, = 4 Ohms

S= :.b The resistance is 4 ohms
