Lesson 1- Photo Story at a Glance

Photo Story for Windows Environment

The photo story for Windows consists of pages where you will work through your story. Let us
see the parts of Photo Story for Windows.

1. Title Bar 5. Film Strips

2. Control Buttons 6. Help Topics

3. Page Title 7. Page

4. Preview Area 8. Scroll Bar

Title Bar
This part of the window shows version of Photo Story and the control buttons.

Control Buttons
These include the minimize, maximize, and close buttons. These buttons resize, hide, and close
the window.

Page Title
This part states the task to be done on a specific page to develop your photo story.

Preview Area
This box shows how the pictures will look like after applying the changes you made to the
original picture.

Filmstrip
This part handles all the pictures you selected for your Photo Story. You may arrange the
pictures in order you want them to be displayed in the filmstrip. All pictures that have been
edited will appear dimmed in the filmstrip.

Help Topics

This is the underlined text which, once clicked, shows the steps and other necessary information
on how to perform a specific task.

Page
This is an individual page where
you will work through your photo Story.

Scroll Bar
This bar moves the filmstrip to the left or right to view the hidden pictures.

Note:
A Multimedia presentation is a combination of text,
sound, pictures, videos, and animations.
Lesson 2- Import and Pictures

Bringing in or importing pictures is the first thing that you will o when, you create a new Photo
Story. You may import pictures from your computer, a network folder, or from your digital
camera.
Importing and arranging your pictures

1. Launch Photo Story 3.1.

2. From the welcome to

Photo Story 3 for Windows page,


choose Begin a new story, and
then click on the Next button.

3. On the Import and


Arrange your pictures button.

4. In the file browser dialog box


Click on the All Files tab.

5. Click on the folder where your pictures are located.


6. Select one more pictures, and then click in the OK button.

Note:
To add more than one pictures at a time, press and hold the CTRL key, click on the
pictures you want to add, and then click on the OK button.

Your imported pictures will appear in the film strip. If you import more pictures,
Photo Story will automatically add them at the end of the film strip.

7. If photo story detects that some pictures are smaller, they remove black borders button
will become available. You may automatically crop them by clicking the remove black
borders button.

8. If you want to change the order of your pictures, select a picture in the film strip by
clicking on it. Then, use the Move Forward and Move Back arrow buttons on the film
strip to move pictures to the left of right.

Note:

You can laso move the pictures on the film dtrip by clicking and dragging the picture to a new
location. If you want to delete a picture, just click on it, and then click on the button.

Lesson 3- Editing Your Pictures

Most common picture editing techniques can be done with a single click on Photo Story. You
can quickly edit and enhance your pictures in several ways by using any of the following
options:

 Correct color levels;


 Correct red eye;
 Correct contrast;
 Rotate the picture clockwise or counterclockwise;
 Manual cropping of the picture;
 Remove black borders and automatically crop the pictures; and
 Add effects to change the appearance of the picture, such as black and white or water
color.

Note:

Changes made on pictures will not affect the original picture that is stored in your computer,
network folder, or the Internet.

Editing your pictures

1. On the Import and arrange your pictures page, select the picture on the film strip.
2. Click any button at the bottom of the preview area that you want to use.
3. If you want to use other tools to enhance your pictures, click on the Edit button. The tasks
on the Edit pictures page are;

Rotate and crop

 To rotate a picture clockwise or counterclockwise


 To manually crop a picture

Auto Fix

 To turn on or turn off Correct Contrast


 To turn on or turn off Correct Color Levels
 To turn on or off Correct Red Eye

Add Effect

 To select an effect
 To apply the selected effect to all of the pictures in your story

Note:

Be sure to first select the picture where you want the changes to take places.

4. When you are done editing the picture, click on the Save button.

5. To edit another picture in the story, click on the Go to Next Picture button or the Go to
previous Picture button until you reach the picture you want to edit.
Note:

If your story contains a large number of pictures, it might take a few minutes for Photo Story to
apply the effects to all of the pictures.

Rotating a Picture

The Rotating feature is helpful for photos that were taken in portrait rather than in landscape
mode. You will see the picture changing in the picture preview area each time you click on the
rotate buttons.

1. Select the picture you want to ratate, then click the edit button.

2. On the Edit Pictures dialog box. Click the Rotate and Crop tab.

3. Click the Rotate clockwise or Rotate counterclockwise button.

4. When you are done rotating the picture, click the Save button.

Note:

Portrait means the height of the picture is taller than its width ( ). Landscape means the
picture is wider than its height ( ).

Crop a Picture
1. Select the picture you want to crop, then click the Edit button.
2. On the Rotate and Crop tab, select the Crop check box by simply clicking on it.
Note:

A rectangle with eight handles will appear in the middle of the picture. You can make it smaller
or larger, but it will still remain its rectangular shape.

The pixels at the bottom of thr image will indicate the preview resolution of your story on the
screen. Pixels are small dots that make up the images displayed on the computer.

3. To adjust the size of the rectangle, point one side of the rectangle. When the cursor
changes into the resize mouse pointer, drag the handle.

4. To move the whole rectangle, point to the center of the rectangle. When the cursor
changes into the move mouse pointer, drag the rectangle to the area of the picture you
want show.

5. When you are done cropping the picture, click the save button.

Note:
Clicking the Reset button in the Edit Pictures dialog box will discard all the changes made on
the selected picture.

Auto Fixing a Picture


You can correct the contrast of pictures by clicking on any of the Auto Fix buttons under the
Auto Fix tab.

1. Select the picture where you want to apply an auto fix.


2. On the Auto Fix tab, click on the On or Off button to see how it changes your picture.
3. When you are done editing the picture, click the Save button.

Adding Effects on Your Pictures


1. Select the picture where you want to add an effect.
2. Click on the Add Effect tab. Click on the Effect drop-down list to view your choices.
3. Click on the effect you want to apply to your picture.

4. You may choose to apply the same effect to all of your pictures by clicking the checkbox
as indicated below.

5. When you are done editing your pictures, click the Save button.

Note:
The icon displayed beneath the picture in this film strip indicated that the picture has been
edited.
