Silkscreen Printing

Grade 6

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, 90% of the students are expected to be:
a. Determine the meaning of silkscreen printing
b. Distinguish the advantages and disadvantages of silkscreen printing
c. Create a simple design using the knowledge gained in silkscreen printing

b. Materials: PowerPoint Presentation, laptop, television, chalk & blackboard
c. Reference: Music and Arts 6, P.p 139-143

B. Motivation “ARRANGE ME!”
“Yes sir”
“Before we proceed to our
discussion I have here some
jumbled letters and I want you
to arrange it and guess what
the correct word for it. Is it
clear class?”

“Based on these words that

you guessed do you have any
 idea what will be our topic for (Learners will answer)
today?”
II. ACTIVITY Activity 1: Brainstorming
identifying Silkscreen Printing

“First what is the definition of

Silkscreen Printing? Would
everyone read the definition?”
“Silkscreen Printing. It
is a technique that makes
use of a wooden mesh to
support an ink blocking
stencil to acquire a desired
image. The process
involves using a stencil to
apply ink onto another
material, usually fabric,
like t-shirts, pouches caps
or any material that can
keep the image onto its
surface. Designs are being
processed by a computer
or hand-drawn images
scanned into a computer
and finished using a
software program then
printed directly onto the
surface of your product
like T-shirt and poster.”
“Thank you class, so we move
on now to the advantages and
disadvantages of using
silkscreen printing. First the
advantages would everyone
read?”
“Thank you class, how about
the disadvantages?”

“Thank you. Very good”

“Now we move on to the
Procedure to make Silkscreen
Printing”
Steps to follow:
1. Create a design
promoting proper
hygiene. Make use of
the digital software
available on your
computer. Apply the
techniques you learned
in the previous lessons.
2. Print your design.

Let’s Analyze
1. Prepare a design and
print on transparency.
2. Prepare the printing
 screen. Coat it with
light sensitive emulsion.
3. Position the printed film
over the screen and
expose it to a very
bright light source.
4. Rinse off the excess
emulsion. Once, you
have all the screens
exposed and cleaned
you are ready to print.
5. Place the screen over
T-shirt. Apply ink in any
color of your choice
using a squeegee.
6. Use a blow dryer to dry
ink on T-shirt.
7. You now have a
finished product.

Finished Product

These t-shirts are examples of

statement shirts. Both have
different designs and convey
different messages.
We commonly see people
wearing different statement
shirts to express themselves
 through the messages
printed on it.

colors, easy to customize
and revise, minimum set
up costs, create unique
designs and good for short
runs.”
“Thank you very good, how
about the disadvantages?”
“Sir the disadvantages are
unable to color match,
cracking in the folds, fewer
material options, more
expensive in higher
quantity print runs.
 “Thank you very much”
IV. Application Let’s make your design for
silkscreen printing/statement
shirt. Printing your own design
on your t-shirt is one way of
communicating your thoughts
and views.

DESIGN YOUR STATEMENT

1. Think of a simple design for
your statement shirt. Keep in
mind to make it short and
catchy. You can make a design
on your views of our current
situations.
2. Draw your design using the
shirt below.
