1) Describe the typical roles of the soprano, alto, tenor, and bass in a vocal ensemble.
How do these roles contribute to the overall sound?

In a vocal ensemble, the four main voice which is Soprano , alto, tenor ,and bass are
distinct roles that together to creat the harmonic sound of the music. The first function of the
harmonic voice is the Soprano. Soprano was the highest of all voice part that is sings the
melody’s most prominent and often carries the lead of the song. Soprano also delivers the
expressive and lyrical of the song and blends seamlessly with the other voice part for bringing
emotional depth to the music.

For the Alto , its lower than soprano but higher than tenor, which is provides inner
harmony and can supports the soprano from above. The characters for the alto was so smooth
and mellow that its can add richness and depth in the ensemble sound.

Furthermore, for the Tenor it is the second highest voice part and it usually sings above
the alto and below the soprano .Tenor also can takes on leading roles in certain sections while
harmonizing with the others.

Finally, the lowest of all voice part that is provides the foundation for the entire vocal
ensemble was called Bass. The bass usually sings the lowest notes and creates harmonic bass
line and also can carry independent melodic lines,depth and the character to the music.

2) Describe two essential vocal techniques that are particularly important in a vocal
ensemble setting. Explain why these techniques are crucial for ensemble performance.
There is two essential vocal techniques that are particularly important in a vocal
ensemble which is blending . Blending refers to the seamless merging of the individual
voices to create a unified and cohesive sound. It seems like a painting with voices,that are
the individual singers come together to form a complete picture (the ensemble).
Besides that, the second essential vocal technique its called dictation. Dictation refers
to the clear and precise pronunciation of words and syllables in singing. It ensures the
meaning of the lyrics is easily understood by the audience.
