A long time ago, there lived on the island of Bali a giant-like creature named Kbo Iwo.
The people of Bali used to say that Kbo Iwo was everything, a destroyer as well as a
creator. He was satisfied with the meal, but this meant for the Balinese people enough
food for a thousand men. Difficulties arose when for the first time the barns were
almost empty and the new harvest was still a long way off. This made Kbo Iwo wild with
great anger. In his hunger, he destroyed all the houses and even all the temples. It
made the Balinese turn to rage.
So, they came together to plan steps to oppose this powerful giant by using his
stupidity. They asked Kbo Iwo to build them a very deep well, and rebuild all the houses
and temples he had destroyed. After they fed Kbo Iwo, he began to dig a deep hole.
One day he had eaten too much, he fell asleep in the hole. The oldest man in the village
gave a sign, and the villagers began to throw the limestone they had collected before
into the hole. The limestone made the water inside the hole boiling. Kbo Iwo was buried
alive. Then the water in the well rose higher and higher until at last it overflowed and
formed Lake Batur. The mound of earth dug from the well by Kbo Iwo is known as
Mount Batur.
This section mainly concerns Kbo food equivalent to the diet of thousands of people.
You must fill in (E) on your answer sheet.
The verse states that "Balinese people do not give Kbo food." You must fill in (C) on
your answer sheet.
Question 1 - 3

Question 4 - 8
Are there more male students attending science courses in universities than female in
your country? If the answer is yes, that is very typical. In college and universities,
science subjects are most of the time dominated by male students. It might lead to
negative impact for the field of job availability for female students. This writing is
aimed to give reason why this might happen. It also tries to give suggestions on how to
create gender equality in this matter. Firstly, the most likely reason for the matter is
boys and girls of course have different abilities and interest. Parents provide their
children, at an early age, with different yet opposite toys, cars, robots and Lego for boys
and dolls for girls. The former is more encouraged to engineering tools and building
blocks whereas the latter is exposed to caring for others. Furthermore, there is a belief
that girls are excellent at languages, meanwhile boys do better in spatial awareness. In
fact ideas that biological differences in sexes make one gender achieve better and more
talented than their opposite gender are of no evidence. It is the society, not nature, that
shape the idea that tells us boys should favour math and physics and leave arts and
humanities to girls.
Secondly, there are only a few female role models doing science related jobs for the
youngsters. Not only crazy scientists and adventurous astronauts but also genius
inventors in cartoons and stories are always shown as males. These false stereotypes
are mostly portrayed by the media.
Unfortunately, the worst perception appears on geeky scientist who have poor social
skills and are detached from the world. Consequently, girls do not find science as
appealing as any other subjects to take in university and don't identify science as their
career path to pursue.
Given these points, this issue should be tackled as early as possible starting from the
child's early education. Don't wait until they are too late disprove the view that science
is 'not for them'. If girls were given more positive role models in science, this would
make them more confident and give them a greater sense of belonging in those
subjects.
Hence, gender-neutral play, games and toys need to be encouraged for children at an
early age. It takes parents, family, primary school and society to play their role. When
they get older, not only the education system but also the media must raise awareness
of the achievements of females in the field of science. Media, furthermore, needs to
expose girls to a more diverse set character in books, cartoon and films. We need to
show young girls that science is interesting and fun, and most importantly, theirs too.
Question 9 - 13
In this modern era, social media is booming everywhere. We can see people use
platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok. They utilize social media
for different purposes like business, family, social life, and even education.
Consequently, the constant use of social media has both positive and negative effects
on the users.
The positive effects with social media is that it helps people keep in touch with others
easily. Those who rarely see each other interacts actively on social media. Moreover,
people can make new friends through social media even though they haven't met yet in
real life. With this method of communication, they can share their situation and
various information accordingly and quickly. On the other hand, social media also
delivers negative impacts. One of the biggest concerns is the poor mental health
problem, often experienced by teenagers and young adults. As people have more screen
time, they are exposed to various contents like showing off wealth, beautiful and
handsome people or one's relationship. Consuming too much of this type of content
can lead to insecurities and unrealistic expectation. For example, when female users
watch channels of a lady who is pretty, successful, and popular, they will have the
image that they have to be like that lady. Thus, they will unconsciously compare
themselves to that person which may cause low self-esteem, and even worse eating
disorders.
As they are obsessed with what they see, they may also develop anxiety and depression.
Sadly, social media users who spend a lot of their time on it are most likely prone to
have depression.
When they become depressed, they will ruin both their physical and mental health.
Often, they will also develop communication problems in real life. Although nowadays
social media is a part of life, we still need to be careful as the users. We must learn to
manage the time used for social media without sacrificing our responsibilities. We have
to take advantage of social media for commendable things, but we cannot let ourselves
be the slave of it. It is important to acknowledge how to make use of the platform
