APPLICATION TO CONTEMPORARY ARTS:
Straw Folding – the straws
are folded by rolling
elongated sheets of wax
coated paper into cylindrical
hollow tubes.
Origami – from the word
“ori” meaning “folding” and
“kami” meaning “paper”; art
of paper folding that is
associated to Japanese
culture.
PUNI
Location: Bulacan
a popular Bulakenyo’s way of
decorating using leaf fronds
folding which has a Malayan origin.
APPLICATION TO CONTEMPORARY ARTS:
Bamboo Art – to use bamboo
for decorations, it must
undergo some processes like
cleaning, cutting, peeling,
splitting, stripping, or weaving
it
SINGKABAN
Location: Malolos, Bulacan
a decorated bamboo arch to
welcome signage of a town, city or
village in the country.
APPLICATION TO CONTEMPORARY ARTS:
Polvoron Molder – this
kitchen tool can help you
mold the powder for
polvoron into perfectly oval
or round shapes (biscuit
molder, doughnut molder).
SANICULAS
Location: Pampanga
cookies made with imprint of San
Nicolas de Tolentino, the miracle
healer according to Pampanga’s
local legend.
APPLICATION TO CONTEMPORARY ARTS:
Packaging – the packaging
design can be simple and
straight forward or colorful
and complex (decorated
packaging).
PABALAT
Location: San Miguel, Bulacan
art of making the pabalat or
pastillas wrappers has transformed
in recent years from being local,
folk traditions into a popular art;
uses “Papel de Hapon”.
APPLICATION TO CONTEMPORARY ARTS:
Paper mâché – using molds,
paper pieces or pulp are put
together with a glue or other
adhesives.
TAKA
Location: Paete, Laguna
refers to paper mâché using carved
wooded sculpture used as a mold.

Stitching – stiches are basic


elements of sewing, knitting,
or embroidery whether by
hand or machine.
PAGBUBURDA
Location: Taal, Batangas, and
Lumban, Laguna
Taal Embroideries are
characterized by fine design with
delicate embossed, durable and
colorful patterns.

Minimalism (ABC Art) – an artistic
movement that seeks to take away
unnecessary and leaving only the
essentials.
Found Objects – this means taking
something that people seem to
find useless and use it in a unique
way in order to make an artwork.

Large – Scale Art – an art that
accounts for the creation of
something huge to express diverse
perspectives in artwork.
Medium is the material or
substance used to create an artwork. Using
these materials, the artist expresses his
feelings or thoughts.
PERFORMING ARTS

Performing arts are arts such as music, dance,


and drama which are performed for an audience.
They are different from the visual arts, which
involve the use of paint, canvas or various
materials to create physical or static art objects.
Performing arts include a range of disciplines
which are performed in front of a live audience,
including theatre, music, and dance.
