Lawyer:

They investigate the facts and the evidence by conferring with their clients and reviewing documents,
and they prepare and file the pleadings in court. Lawyers have several loyalties in their work,
including loyalties to their clients, to the administration of justice, to the community, to their
associates in practice, and to themselves.

These roles require lawyers to have extensive training in legal procedure, writing, and research. The
type of education needed for a lawyer includes finishing an undergraduate degree, completing law
school, and earning a Juris Doctor (J.D.). Beyond the education required as a lawyer, all lawyers must
pass their state's bar exam to practice.

To succeed in practicing law, you'll need to master the following skills:


speaking, time management, writing, critical thinking, strategic thinking,
reading comprehension, active listening and learning, complex problem
solving, quick decision making, management, negotiation, persuasion,
social perceptiveness.
There is roughly one lawyer for every 240 people in the United States. With numbers like that, you
wouldn’t think it would be so hard to find clients.

Political Scientist:

Political scientists study the origin, development, and operation of political systems. They research
political ideas and analyze governments, policies, political trends, and related issues. They evaluate
the effects of policies and laws on government, businesses, and people. Political scientists study a
wide range of topics such as U.S. political parties, how political structures differ among countries,
globalization, and the history of political thought.

The basic requirement to become a political scientist is a bachelor's degree in political


science. Political scientists often complete a Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master of Public
Policy (MPP), or master of public affairs degree. Some political scientists also complete a Ph.D.

program, which requires several years of coursework followed by independent research for a
dissertation. Most Ph.D. candidates choose to specialize in one of four primary subfields of political
science: national politics, comparative politics, international relations, or political theory.

Important qualities: analytical skills, communication skills, creativity, and critical-thinking skills.
The median annual wage for political scientists was $122,510 in May 2021. Political scientists
typically work full time in an office. They may work additional hours to finish reports and meet
deadlines.

Emergency Management Director:

Emergency management directors prepare plans and procedures for responding to natural
disasters and other emergencies. They also help lead the response during and after emergencies,
often in coordination with public safety officials, elected officials, nonprofit organizations, and

Emergency management directors typically need a bachelor's degree in security and protective
service, business, or emergency management. Some directors working in the private sector in
business continuity management may need a degree in computer science, information systems
administration, or another computer and information technology (IT) field. Candidates typically
need many years of work experience before they can be hired as an emergency management
director. Their experience usually must be with the military, law enforcement, fire safety, or in
another emergency management field.

Important qualities: communication skills, critical-thinking skills, decision-making skills,


leadership skills, and interpersonal skills.

Employment of emergency management directors is projected to grow 3 percent from 2021 to


2031, slower than the average for all occupations.
