INTRODUCTION
Fingerprint is an impression left by the friction ridges on any surface like porus or non porus
surface. The pattern present on the fingers are unique of each and every person. These
fingerprint impression are used for identification and also used in biometrics. Fingerprint is
one of the most important considered and matured field of biometric. Biometric identification
is based on individuality and permanence. Individuality means that no two twins of biometric
have similar feature of information in biometric. For instance, even identical twins cannot
have the same fingerprint characteristic. And when they have a biometric that doesn't change
over time or it is used permanently, you have psychological or behavioural characteristics.
These physical aspects of the body, like the iris ,palm prints, the face's ,DNA and geometry,
the retina, etc., are also psychological characteristics. There are 3 types of pattern arch , whorl
, loop (fig.1)
 Loop : 60-65% of the population
 Whorl:30-35% of the population
 Arch :up to 5% of the population
