This document discusses identifying gender from fingerprints. It summarizes that fingerprint patterns are unique to each individual and can be used to identify biological traits like gender. The thickness of fingerprint ridges differs between males and females, allowing gender identification. A study analyzed fingerprints from 200 subjects (100 male and 100 female) aged 18-50 from northern India to examine ridge thickness and gender identification.

Abstract : In Forensic ,gender identification from fingerprint is an important aspect when
identifying the gender of suspected Criminal. Fingerprint pattern are specific and individualistic which make fingerprint an important aspect in biological traits and forensic. Fingerprint is an impression of the friction ridges of finger ball and the raised portion of fingerprint is epidermis. Fingertips cantion ridges and valley which together forms different pattern on skin. Sex identification depand on the thickness of epidermal ridges. These pattern were fully developed in intra utrine life and it remain unchanged until the death of individual. Keyword – Fingerprint , Ridges , Gender identification INTRODUCTION Fingerprint is an impression left by the friction ridges on any surface like porus or non porus surface. The pattern present on the fingers are unique of each and every person. These fingerprint impression are used for identification and also used in biometrics. Fingerprint is one of the most important considered and matured field of biometric. Biometric identification is based on individuality and permanence. Individuality means that no two twins of biometric have similar feature of information in biometric. For instance, even identical twins cannot have the same fingerprint characteristic. And when they have a biometric that doesn't change over time or it is used permanently, you have psychological or behavioural characteristics. These physical aspects of the body, like the iris ,palm prints, the face's ,DNA and geometry, the retina, etc., are also psychological characteristics. There are 3 types of pattern arch , whorl , loop (fig.1) Loop : 60-65% of the population Whorl:30-35% of the population Arch :up to 5% of the population

Material and Methods
The study was conducted on 200 subject ( 100 males and 100 females) in the year 2022-2023 the subject were chosen randomly in the age group of 18 – 50 years from the chandigarh, Union Territory of India ( northern part of India ).the material used for this research were printer black ink ,roller, glass plate, Lens ( Regula MAG-FM5 and MAG-FM/L),pencil, measuring tape, scale, pin and performa.
