FSOLIMON – SOLID MENSURATION
FINAL ASSESSMENT
I. Introduction
In this project, we embark on a creative journey where the realms of solid mensuration and artistic expression
converge. Solid mensuration, the study of three-dimensional shapes, forms the foundation of our exploration as
we delve into the construction of captivating 3D pop-up art.
II. Objective
The objective of this project is to apply the principles of solid mensuration to create visually engaging 3D pop-up
art depicting various geometric shapes.

IV. Instructions
1. Shape Selection
● Each student will choose a minimum of eight different geometric shapes to incorporate into their pop-up
art. Options may include cubes, spheres, cylinders, cones, pyramids, etc.
2. Design Planning
● Before starting the construction, students should sketch out their design ideas on a separate sheet of paper.
● The sketches should include the arrangement of shapes, dimensions, and any additional decorative
elements.
3. Base Construction
● Start by creating the base for the pop-up art using a piece of cardstock or heavy paper.
● The base should be large enough to accommodate the pop-up shapes and allow space for decoration.
● Fold the base in half horizontally or vertically to create a crease for the pop-up effect.
4. Shape Construction
● Using the selected geometric shapes, students will create 3D representations of each shape.
● Provide templates or guides for constructing each shape if needed, ensuring that students understand how
to accurately measure and cut the paper to form the shapes.
● Once the shapes are cut out, fold along the edges to create the 3D effect. Secure the folds with glue or
adhesive.
5. Pop-up Assembly
● Attach the constructed shapes to the base using glue or adhesive, positioning them to create a visually
appealing composition.
● To achieve the pop-up effect, carefully position the shapes so that they stand upright when the base is
opened.
6. Decoration
● Students can decorate the pop-up art using markers, colored pencils, paint, or other decorative materials.
● Encourage creativity in decorating the shapes and base to enhance the overall visual appeal of the
artwork.
7. Documentation
● Alongside the finished pop-up art, students should provide documentation explaining their design choices
and the mathematical principles applied.
● This documentation may include written explanations, sketches, diagrams, or annotations detailing the
solid mensuration concepts utilized. Labels, written explanations, calculations, annotations, etc. should be
included in the pop-up art.

1. Creativity/Visual Appeal (30 points)
● Demonstrates originality and creativity in the design and arrangement of the pop-up shapes.
● Incorporates unique and innovative elements in the artwork.
● Overall presentation is visually appealing and engaging.
● All shapes accurately represent the specified geometric figures (e.g., cubes, spheres,
cylinders, pyramids).
● Shapes are proportionate and correctly scaled in relation to each other.
