    Assignment 5: Exponents and Polynomials


    Due: Friday, March 22nd. Upload your completed assignment to the Dropbox.

    You must submit your own, original work. Submitting work that is not your own
    will result in a score of 0.

    Part A (18 marks)

    You must show all steps to receive full marks. Clearly state your final answer.

    1. Simplify. (4𝑖 3 − 2𝑖 2 𝑗 + 𝑖𝑗 2 − 3𝑘 3 ) − (6𝑖 2 𝑗 − 4𝑖𝑗 2 − 2𝑘 3 ) + (2𝑖 3 − 5𝑖 2 𝑗 + 3𝑖𝑗 2 )

    2. Multiply and simplify. (𝑥 2 + 2𝑥 − 4)(2𝑥 2 − 3𝑥 + 5)

    3. Divide using synthetic division. (2𝑥 3 − 𝑥 2 − 36𝑥 + 27) ÷ (𝑥 − 4)


    4. Divide using long division. (3𝑥 2 + 14𝑥 − 21) ÷ (𝑥 + 6)

    5. Divide using long division. (𝑥 3 − 10𝑥 + 3) ÷ (𝑥 − 3)

    Part B (15 marks)
