Intermediate - Snacks (C0579)

nı̌ zài chı̄ shénme?
What are you eating?

niúròugān. xiānglà de, tèbié hǎochı̄. nı̌ yě lái yı̄ kuài?
Beef jerky. It’s spicy, and especially good. You want a
piece?

A: 不要。
bùyào. lı́ngshı́ wǒ háishi xı̌huan shǔpiàn hé qiǎokèlı̀.
No. When it comes to snacks, I like potato chips and choco-
late.

nàxiē dōu shı̀ lājı̄ shı́pı̌n, rèliàng hěn gāo de.
Those are junk food. They’re high in calories.

nı̌ ài chı̄ de yābózi, jı̄zhuǎzi yě hǎo bùdào nǎr qù.
Those duck necks and chicken feet you like to eat aren’t so
great for you either.

āi, zhè nı̌ jiù bù dǒng le. zhèxiē dōngxi kě yǒu yı́ngyǎng le.
háiyǒu guāzı̌, huàméi, dōu shı̀ yòu hǎochı̄, yòu jiànkāng de.
Ah, you just don’t understand. Those things are quite nu-
tritious. Also melon seeds and pickled plums. They’re all
delicious and healthy too.

A: 健康?
jiànkāng? chı̄ lı́ngshı́ cái bùhuı̀ jiànkāng ne. háishi shǎo chı̄
diǎn hǎo.
Healthy? Eating snacks is not going to be healthy. It’s better
to eat less of them.

zhè jiù bùyòng nı̌ cāoxı̄n le. wǒ bùhuı̀ bǎ tā dàng fàn chı̄ de,
lı́ngshı́ běnlái jiùshı̀ xián de shı́hou chı̄ de ma.
You don’t need to worry about that. I won’t make a meal out
of them. Snacks are for munching on when you’re bored.

nà wǒ zěnme kàn nı̌ yı̄tiāndàowǎn dōu zài chı̄?
So how come I see you eating them all day long?

dāngrán yào chı̄ lo.
Geez, these days snack ads and packaging are so enticing,
as soon as I see them I get the munchies. Every time I go
to the grocery store, even though I’m not planning to buy
them, I still end up with a whole pile of them. And if I buy
them of course I’m going to eat them.

nı̌ zhēnshı̀ tóu zhū.
You’re such a pig.
