Chapter 1
1.Introduction
The reason why we conduct research about speaking skill is to understand how Gr. 11
students of M.B. Asistio Sr. High School communicate and express themselves through
spoken language. And also researchers can explore various aspects such as pronunciation,
fluency, vocabulary usage.
Conducting research about speaking skill can also helps developing effective teaching
methods and materials for language learners. It can help the educators to identify common
challenges and areas of improvement for learners, and design strategies to enhance their
speaking abilities.
In addition to understanding how Gr. 11 students of M.B. Asistio Sr. High School
communicate and express themselves through spoken language, conducting research on
speaking skills can provide valuable insights into other aspects as well. Research can delve
into the specific challenges faced by students in speaking English, such as the reasons behind
their reluctance to speak or their difficulty in expressing them selves. By identifying these
challenges, educators can develop targeted strategies and interventions to address them
effectively.
Furthermore, research on speaking skills can explore the impact of cultural and social factors
on students' speaking abilities. It can shed light on how cultural norms, social interactions,
and individual backgrounds influence students' confidence and proficiency in speaking
English. This understanding can help educators create a culturally inclusive and supportive
learning environment that encourages students to engage in English communication.
Conducting research on speaking skills also allows for the exploration of innovative teaching
methods and materials.
By investigating different approaches, such as task-based learning, project-based learning, or
technology-enhanced instruction, researchers can identify effective strategies for enhancing
students' speaking abilities. This research can inform the development of engaging and
interactive learning materials that cater to the specific needs and interests of Gr. 11 students.
Moreover, research on speaking skills can contribute to the ongoing professional
development of language teachers. By studying effective instructional practices and
techniques, researchers can provide valuable insights and guidance to educators, enabling
them to refine their teaching methods and better support their students' speaking
development.
Overall, conducting research on speaking skills not only helps us understand how students
communicate and express themselves, but it also informs the development of effective
teaching methods, addresses cultural and social factors, and supports the professional growth
of language educators. By continuously exploring and expanding our knowledge in this area,
we can create an environment that fosters students' confidence, proficiency, and enjoyment in
speaking English.
