6.2.2 Check tools and accessories condition like tube bender, cutter
tube, arc welder.
6.2.3 Check safe access area to install the tube
6.2.4 If tube is required to be welded, ensure that to be done by
certified welder to avoid the leakage.
6.2.5 Workmen wear proper PPE (helmet, safety shoes, hand
gloves). Please see attachment for HSE Aspects,
Identification, Risk Assessment and Risk Control.
6.2.6 Perform house keeping after job completion.

6.3 PREPARATION OF WORK

Prior to commencement of tube impulse installation work, Instrument

Engineer will liaise with the Construction Department to ensure the
correct drawings are available to the field force. Instrument Engineer
will, after consultation with the Certification Documents, establish any
special requirements which may need to be fulfilled during installation
of impulse tube. He will ensure the Construction Department are fully
aware of these needs.

6.4 MATERIAL
Each Tube or items of equipment to be installed shall be Inspected to
check that it's data agrees with the Specification

6.5 IMPULSE TUBE INSTALLATION

The following instructions are to be followed for the installation of

pneumatic and impulse piping.

1. All pipe and tube fittings installed to be of approved type.

2. Pipes or tubes installed, but not connected, will have the ends
closed in an air approved method to prevent the entry of any
foreign material.

3. Where instrument pipes/tubing are run parallel to each other,

joints will be systematically staggered and neatly off-set. There
will be at least two pipes/tubes adjacent joints.

4. Where compression fittings are used the fittings will be

installed in strict accordance with the manufacturers
recommendation.

5. The number of joints in pipe work shall be kept to a minimum,

consistent with good practice

6. Welding requirement for impulse tube as under :

6.1.1 Impulse lines will be kept as short as

possible, consistent with good practice and accessibility.
6.1.2 If it is required for welding to connect
the tubing, a qualified welder shall weld especially for
tube less than 10mm diameter.
6.1.3 After welding the surface should clean,
free from rubist and no clogging

7. Horizontal runs of pipes and tubes will have pipes/tubes laid

vertically, one above the other, as far as possible and shall be
run with the minimum number of changes of direction
consistent with good practice and neat appearance.

8. All pneumatic signal tubing will be cleaned by blowing through

with filtered air before connection to instruments

9. Single core tubing will be run in such a manner as to give the

maximum protection against mechanical damage

10. Long runs of stainless steel tubing shall be supported by

galvanized tray with insulated nylon fixing bruts.

11. Where permanent enclosures, trunking or conduit etc. are left

with space for tubes to be pulled .in at some future date a
galvanized draw wire of adequate size will be left in the
enclosure.

12. Multi-core tubing will not be bent to radi less than the
manufacturers recommendation.

13. Special care will be taken when multi core tubing is being
installed in low ambient temperature.

14. All impulse piping will in general be run with a slope of not
more than 1.2 except where otherwise specified. The slope of
the impulse pipe work shall be down from the tapping point for
liquids, steam and condensable, and up from the tapping for
gas service, unless special provisions are made for venting
and draining.

15. Ensure that the correct sitting of vents and drains are at the
highest or lowest points of the piping run.

16. Piping and tubing shall be adequately supported and fixed at

distance not exceeding those in the following table :

Size (in mm) max distance between support

12 or less continuously supported

10 to 20 1500 mm
25 2000 mm
