The purpose of this Service Bulletin is to provide a Fleet Management Plan (FMP) for the steel HPC Front Hub
PN 30G2401. Certified life limits in the Reference 3, Airworthiness Limitation Manual, Table of Limits, are being
decreased.

models by Reference 5, Service Bulletin No. PW1000G-C-72-00-0001-00A-930A-D; Engine - Thrust/Model
Conversion - Replacement Or Reprogramming Of The Data Storage Unit (DSU).

NOTE
The engine serial number effectivity data and its related engine model identification contained in this Service
Bulletin are taken from the records of part(s) incorporation during initial manufacture.

After initial engine manufacture, but before final delivery, Pratt & Whitney may change part(s) in the engine or
change the model identification of the engine. Such action is recorded on FAA337 forms.

To find Service Bulletin PW1000G-C-72-00-0106-00A-930A-D models that are applicable, the owner/operator
of the engine must compare the Service Bulletin List supplied with the engine as sent from Pratt & Whitney and

the List of Changes incorporated at the Airframer from FAA337 forms to the Service Bulletin PW1000G-C-72-
00-0106-00A-930A-D Effectivity section.

Concurrent Requirements
There are no concurrent requirements.

Reason
Problem: Aqueous corrosion pitting on the steel HPC front hub results in reduced Low Cycle Fatigue (LCF)
capability that enables crack initiation and propagation to fracture.

Cause: The coated steel front hub is susceptible to corrosion through and below the painted surfaces during
engine down-time.

Solution: Revise the certified life of the steel HPC front hub as specified in the Reference 3, Table of

Limits/Airworthiness Limitation Manual.

Description
Replace the HPC front hub and the No. 3 bearing bevel gear and omit the No. 3 bearing rear spacer.

CAUTION

Cycles since new removal limits for steel HPC front hubs in engines operating across
mixed PW1100G-JM engine models should be calculated using methods defined in
Reference 3, PW1100G-JM Series Airworthiness Limitation Manual, Data Module
PW1000G-C-05-10-00-02A-288A-D; Time Limits - Mixed Model Management Of Rotating
And Non-Rotating Life Accessed Parts - Overhaul And Retirement Schedule.

If an engine is operating across mixed PW1100G-JM engine models and has any run
time on the PW1130G-JM, PW1133G-JM, PW1133GA-JM engine models, the removal
time limit will be 48 months from Entry Into Service (EIS) of the specific engine serial
number. Failure to account for mixed run time may result in non-compliance with this
Service Bulletin.

Do before 4,400 cycles since new, or 48 months from date of engine manufacture, whichever comes first. See
Table 3 in the Appendix for engine manufacture dates.

Do before 6,180 cycles since new, or 60 months from date of engine manufacture, whichever comes first. See
Table 3 in the Appendix for engine manufacture dates.

Accomplishment Instructions

1. Replace the HPC Front Hub, PN 30G2401, with PN 30G5801 as specified in Reference 4, Engine Manual
Special Procedures, PW1000G-C-72-35-30-02A-530A-B and PW1000G-C-72-35-30-01A-710A-B

2. Reidentify the HPC Axial Compressor Rotor Assembly, PN 5325077, to PN 5326605. See Figure 3.

A. Cross out the existing PN "5325077" and mark the part with the new PN "5326605" adjacent to the
crossed out PN. Use the part marking procedure specified in Reference 1, Standard Practices Manual,
Chapter/Section 70-11-00, Class 14 Ink Marking and Data Plate, Class 39 Marking.

3. Replace the No. 3 Bearing Bevel Gear PN, 5311078 with PN 5323784. See Figure 2 and refer to Reference
AF
4, Engine Manual PW1000G-C-72-00-34-01A-520A-B and PW1000G-C-72-00-34-04A-720A-B except as
follows:

NOTE
Reference 4, Engine Manual PW1000G-C-72-00-34-04A-720A-B, is scheduled to incorporate the
assembly instructions related to this Service Bulletin and will take precedence over the Service Bulletin.

A. Check the position of the No. 3 bearing stack on the HPC hub.

(1) Refer to the worksheet PW1000G-C-72-00-34-00A-720A-B for Dimensions A and F. Make a


record of these on this worksheet for Dimensions A and F.

(2) Subtract Dimensions F, G, and H from Dimension A to get the calculated Dimension J.

(3) Measure Dimension J and subtract from calculated Dimension J. The result should be +/- 0.000 -
0.001 inches (0.000 - 0.025 mm). Make a record of this on the worksheet.

(4) If the result is not +/- 0.000 - 0.001 inches (0.000 - 0.025 mm), remove the seal seat [11], examine
the parts for correct interface, and then reinstall. Refer to PW1000G-C-72-00-34-01A-520A-B.

B. Install the No. 3 bearing retaining nut to the HPC hub as follows.

(1) Apply Engine Oil (P03-001) to the threads and face of the nut.

(2) Install the nut to the HPC hub fingertight.

(3) Install the (PWA 111226) Holder Adapter to the HPC hub.

(4) Install the (PWA 111228) Torque Adapter over the Holder Adapter and nut.

(5) Install the (PWA 202003) Torque Multiplier to the Torque Adapter and Holding Adapter.

(6) Make a mark on the forward carbon seal seat and an adjacent mark on the front of the HPC hub
with a PMC 4564 Marker (P05-472).

(7) Torque the nut to 1500 - 1900 lbf-in (169.5 - 214.6 N.m).

NOTE
Do not torque the nut more than 21,660 lbf-in (2447.3 N.m).

(8) Turn the nut 45 - 49 degrees.

(9) Loosen the nut to zero.

(10) Turn the seal seat back to the adjacent mark on the HPC hub, if necessary.

(11) Torque the nut to 1500 - 1900 lbf-in (169.5 - 214.6 N.m).

(12) Make a mark on the nut and a related adjacent mark on the front of the HPC hub with the Marker.

(13) Turn the nut 45 - 49 degrees.

(14) Check if the seal seat has turned and measure the distance to the related mark, if necessary.
Make a note of this measurement.

(15) Loosen the nut to zero.

(16) Turn the seal seat past the adjacent mark the distance you measured, if necessary.

(17) Torque the nut to 1500 - 1900 lbf-in (169.5 - 214.6 N.m).

(18) If the mark on the nut is not more than 1 degree further than the mark on the hub, turn the nut 45 -
49 degrees.

(19) If the mark on the nut is more than 1 degree farther than the mark on the hub, do the steps that
follow in the sequence shown until the mark is not more than 1 degree farther.

(a) Remove the mark on the nut and the related mark on the hub.

(b) Make a new mark on the nut and a new adjacent mark on the HPC hub with a Marker.

(c) Turn the nut 45 - 49 degrees.

(d) Loosen the nut to zero.

(e) Turn the seal seat past the adjacent mark the distance you measured, if necessary.

(f) Torque the nut to 1500 - 1900 lbf-in (169.5 - 214.6 N.m).

(g) If the mark on the nut is more than 1 degree farther than the mark on the hub, repeat Step
3.B.(19) again.

(h) If the mark on the nut is not more than 1 degree farther than the mark on the hub, turn the nut

45 - 49 degrees.

(20) Clean the nut and adjacent parts with PMC 9094 Isopropyl Alcohol (P11-014) and a Lint-Free
Cotton Cloth (P05-005).

4. Reidentify the HPC Module Rotor and Stator Assembly PN 5325093 to PN 5326606. See Figure 4.

A. Cross out the existing PN "5325093" and mark the part with the new PN "5326606" adjacent to the
crossed out PN. Use the part marking procedure specified in Reference 1, Standard Practices Manual,
Chapter/Section 70-11-00, Class 14 Ink Marking and Data Plate, Class 39 Marking.

5. During installation of the Compressor Intermediate Case (CIC) module to the HPC as specified in
Reference 4, Engine Manual, PW1000G-C-72-00-34-00A-720A-B with the following changes in the
procedure:

A. Omit the No. 3 Bearing Rear Spacer, PN 5325271 at assembly.

B. Omit the following step: "Do a check of the position of the installed spacer as follows"

6. Reidentify the HPC Assembly PN 5325407 to PN 5326607. See Figure 5.

A. Cross out the existing PN "5325407" and 2D matrix marking and mark the part with the new PN
"5326607" adjacent to the crossed out PN. Use the part marking procedure specified in Reference 1,
Standard Practices Manual, Chapter/Section 70-11-00, Class 14 Ink Marking and Data Plate, Class 39
Marking.
