Introduction
This Japanese Industrial Standard has been prepared based on ISO 7452:2013, Edi-
tion 3, with some modifications of the technical contents to reflect transactional prac-
tices.
The vertical lines on both sides and dotted underlines indicate changes from the cor-
responding International Standard. A list of modifications with the explanations is
given in Annex JA.
1 Scope
This Standard specifies requirements for the appearance and shapes of the hot rolled
steel plates, steel sheets (including cut lengths from steel strips), steel strips and their
permissible variations as well as the dimensions, mass and their tolerances. This Stan-
dard is not applicable to flat bars.
The application of this Standard is specified in the relevant product standards.
NOTE The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the sym-
bol of degree of correspondence are as follows.
ISO 7452:2013 Hot-rolled steel plates—Tolerances on dimensions and shape
(MOD)
In addition, symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the
contents between the relevant International Standards and JIS are IDT
(identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/
IEC Guide 21-1.

For mill-edged steel strips and cut lengths from steel strips under 400 mm in width, the width tolerances
on the minus side may be zero. In this case, the plus side tolerances shall be twice the values given in this
table.
Other width tolerance values than those specified in this table may be applied upon the agreement between
the purchaser and the manufacturer.
c) Tolerances on length of steel plates and sheets shall be as given in Table 8 and
Table 9.
d) The maximum value of camber of steel plates and sheets shall be 0.2 % or under of
the length of steel plates and sheets. The application of the camber of steel plates
and sheets shall be as shown in Figure 1. The camber of steel plates and sheets
under 250 mm in width shall be as given in Table 10.
These values are not applicable to as-rolled mill-edged steel plates and sheets.

Table 11.
g) The out-of-squareness of cut lengths from cut-edged steel strips shall be either of
the following. In case of dispute, the method described in 1) shall be used.
1) Draw a straight line perpendicular to the side at a corner point and obtain the
ratio (A/W) × 100 (%) as shown in Figure 4. The resultant value shall not exceed
1.0 %. A is the measured value and W is the nominal width.
2) Obtain half the absolute value of the difference in length between two diagonal
lines (X1 and X2 in Figure 5) of the steel plates and sheets, that is | X1 − X2 | /2, and
the value shall not exceed 0.7 % of the actual measured width W of the steel plates
and sheets.

6 Mass
--`,,,``,,`````,``,`,,`,-`-``,```,,,`---
a) The mass of steel plates and sheets shall generally be the calculated weight ex-
pressed in kilogrammes.
b) The mass of steel plates and sheets shall be calculated according to Table 12 using
the nominal size. When thickness tolerances given in Table 6 are applied, the av-
erage value of the upper limit and the lower limit of tolerances may be added to the
thickness upon the agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer.
The mass of steel plates and sheets with untrimmed edge (as-rolled mill-edged

steel plates and sheets and cut lengths from mill-edged steel strips) may be calcu-
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
lated upon the agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer with the
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
mass of the untrimmed edge taken into consideration.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--`,,,``,,`````,``,`,,`,-`-``,```,,,`---
7 Appearance
The appearance of steel plates, sheets and strips shall be as follows.
-------------------
a) The steel plates, sheets and strips shall be free from defects detrimental to use
-------------------
(hereafter referred to as defects). The steel strips may contain some minor defects
since the normal inspection procedures do not afford the manufacturer the oppor-
tunity to remove the defects.
b) In the case of strips and cut lengths from steel strips, the surface defects shall gen-
erally apply to one of the surfaces. The term one of the surfaces refers to the out-
side surface of the steel strips and the top surface of the cut lengths from steel
strips.
c) When any defect is observed on the surface of the steel plates and sheets, the manu-
facturer may remove or repair the defect by grinding or welding. In this case, the
operation shall be performed under the following conditions.
1) Conditioning with grinder
1.1) The thickness of the steel plates and sheets after conditioning shall not exceed
the tolerances on thickness.
1.2) The conditioned parts on the steel plates and sheets shall be finished evenly,
and the boundary adjacent to the as-rolled surface shall be smoothly finished.
2) Repair by welding
2.1) Any defects on the steel plates and sheets shall be removed thoroughly by a suit-
able means such as chipping or grinding prior to welding. The depth of the re-
moved part shall be 20 % or under of the nominal thickness of the steel plates
and sheets. The total conditioned area on one side shall not exceed 2 % of the
area of one of the surfaces of the steel plates and sheets.
2.2) The repair by welding shall be carried out by a suitable means according to the
type of steel products.
2.3) The welded part of the steel plates and sheets shall be free from undercuts or
overlaps around the fringe of welds. The weld reinforcement shall be at a height
of at least 1.5 mm from the rolled surface and shall be removed by chipping,
grinding, etc., in order to evenly finish the rolled surface.
2.4) For the heat-treated steel plates and sheets, heat treatment shall be again ap-
plied to the steel plates and sheets after the repair by welding.
