Indonesia has lot of small capacity diesel power plants spread all isolated islands. The Diesel
Power Plant Conversion Program ("Diesel Conversion Program") is part of a project in the
2021-2030 General Electricity Supply Plan (RUPTL) based on the IPP scheme. One of the
isolated island is Selayar island, this island has 11 units Diesel Generators with total capacity is
approximately 18,645 kVA.
According to Diesel Conversion Program, Diesel Power Plant’s usage is decreacing and it is
converted to local renewable energy sources. Therefore, this project aims to Synergizing PV Off-
grid with existing diesel power plant to reduce carbon emission in Indonesia especially in
Selayar Island . Furhtermore, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is used to compensate the
intermittency of Solar Panel to support the Renewable Energy penetration..

Project Objectives:
The aim of this project is to install a solar-based power generation system that provides
reliable and low-cost access to electricity for remote island communities. This project aligns
with Indonesia's national agenda to achieve zero emissions by reducing the use of diesel
generation and implementing green energy integration. The new power generation plant is an
additional electricity system that will connect and integrate with the island's grid network
seamlessly. It will be located near the existing oil-fired power plant site for optimal access and
installation cost. The system will be designed with safety, reliability, and ease of operation and
maintenance in mind, in compliance with regulatory standards. It will integrate a battery-based
storage system to ensure a consistent, reliable, and sustainable electricity supply for critical
infrastructure for the needs of the people on the island. A remote access system will be
implemented to enable remote monitoring, and evaluation for operation patterns and
maintenance activities planning.
