THE TRIBAL SCARS REFLECTION

Inscribed Justice: Unveiling the Human Cost of Tribal Identity

The book "The Tribal Scars" by Ousmane Sembène, the story highlights the

prevalence slavery and racism evident are even in our early societies. It portrays

how American people oppressed the black one and receive a massive discrimination

to people. This story helps me to realize how fortunate I am not to have been born in

such an era and society where discrimination, slavery and mistreatment to people

are very common.

Upon reading the story, I have learned how tribal scars are very significant to

African people as it plays a vital role in saving their lives from American slavery that

led them to freedom and sovereignty. The story of Tribal Scars, doesn’t just focus on

the issues and problems, but it also emphasizes the father’s unconditional and

sacrificial love towards his daughter, a father that would do everything and a father

that is willing to risk his life just to protect his daughter from slavery. The father in the

story named Amoo, who tried to make ways to save and get his daughter Lome out

from the world of slavery that is full of hardship experiences and sufferings.

The story is a reminder of how heart-wrenching and painful our history was,

where the black people faced such as oppression, maltreatment, persecution and

enslavement from White Americans and the only solution to end this slavery, is

through having scars from their body, which is the most painful part of how cruel the

life was before that they even need to hurt their selves just to have the freedom that

they are looking for, well in fact the freedom should be given to everyone disregard

of color, ethnicity and social status without any compensation. However, we cannot
deny the fact that most of these aforementioned issues are still present in today’s

generation.

All in all, I have learned that whatever our past history it would always have a

huge impact and effect to our present time. This story teaches us a lesson that every

person deserves to be treated with respect, regardless of their background or beliefs.

Rather, we should promote positive traits such as kindness and fairness, fostering an

open mind and promoting tolerance, we can create a world free from prejudice and

discrimination. Embracing equality is an ongoing journey, not a destination. It

requires constant effort, open minds, and a commitment to understanding and

respecting one another. But by working together, we can create a world where

everyone feels valued, safe, and empowered to reach their full potential.
