How key Republicans inside Facebook are shifting its

politics to the right
“Facebook’s DC office ensures that the company’s content policies meet the
approval of Republicans in Congress,” Popular Information said.
Company has been accused of pro-Republican bias, in both policy and personnel,
amid fears it could be broken up if a Democrat wins in 2020.
Joel Kaplan [key participant of the Florida recount Brooks Brothers riot], vice-
president of global public policy at Facebook, manages the company’s relationships
with policymakers around the world. A former law clerk to archconservative
justice Antonin Scalia on the supreme court, he served as deputy chief of staff
for policy under former president George W Bush from 2006 to 2009, joining
Facebook two years later.
Kaplan has reportedly advocated for rightwing sites such as Breitbart and the
Daily Caller, which earlier this year became a partner in Facebook’s
factchecking program. Founded by Fox News’s Tucker Carlson, the Daily Caller is
pro-Trump, anti-immigrant and widely criticised for the way it reported on a fake

Facebook's head of policy Joel Kaplan, who pushes conservative bias in Facebook's
algorithms and decisions and also coordinated Brett Kavanaugh and threw his
celebration party, was a part of the violent intimidation of poll workers during the 2000
presidential election for George W. Bush:

The Brooks Brothers riot was a demonstration at a meeting of election canvassers

in Miami-Dade County, Florida, on November 22, 2000, during a recount of votes
made during the 2000 United States presidential election, with the goal of shutting
down the recount.[1]
Many of the demonstrators were paid Republican operatives.[2]
The "Brooks Brothers" name was in reference to the protesters' corporate attire;
described in The Wall Street Journal as "50-year-old white lawyers with cell phones
and Hermès ties," differentiating them from local citizens concerned about vote
counting.[4][5]
Several of the protestors were identified as Republican congressional staffers.[3][8]
At least a half dozen of the demonstrators were paid by George W. Bush's recount
committee,[4] and a number of them went on to take jobs in the incoming Bush
administration.[9]
Hundreds of paid Republican operatives descended upon South Florida to protest
the state's recounts.[8] The demonstration was organized by these operatives,
sometimes referred to as the "Brooks Brothers Brigade",[10] to oppose the recount
of ballots during the Florida election recount. John E. Sweeney of New York,
nicknamed "Congressman Kick-Ass" by President Bush for his work in Florida,[11]

after the event, the canvassing board unanimously voted to shut down the count, in
part due to perceptions that the process was not open or fair, and in part because
the court-mandated deadline had become impossible to meet, due to the
interference.[13][14][15]
Sweeney defended his actions by arguing that his aim was not to stop the hand

acknowledge they hoped the recount would end. "We were trying to stop the

“We conquered Reddit and drive narrative on social media, conquered the

Do white people want merit-based admissions policies? Depends on who their

competition is.
white applicants were three times more likely to be admitted to selective schools
than Asian applicants with the exact same academic record.
the degree to which white people emphasized merit for college admissions
changed depending on the racial minority group, and whether they
believed test scores alone would still give them an upper hand against a
particular racial minority. As a result, the study suggests that the emphasis on
merit has less to do with people of color's abilities and more to do with how
white people strategically manage threats to their position of power from
nonwhite groups.
Additionally, affirmative action will not do away with legacy admissions that are
more likely available to white applicants.
On average, Asian students need SAT scores 140 points higher than whites
to get into highly selective private colleges.

Who benefits from discriminatory college admissions policies? White men.

Here's another group, less well known, that has benefited from preferential
admission policies: men.
There are more qualified college applications from women, who generally
get higher grades and account for more than 70% of the valedictorians
nationwide.
Seeking to create some level of gender balance, many colleges accept a higher
percentage of the applications they receive from males than from females.
Selective colleges’ hunger for athletes also benefits white applicants above
other groups.
Those include students whose sports are crew, fencing, squash and sailing,
sports that aren’t offered at public high schools. The thousands of dollars in
private training is far beyond the reach of the working class.
And once admitted, they generally under-perform, getting lower grades than
other students, according to a 2016 report titled “True Merit” by the Jack Kent
Cooke Foundation.
“Moreover,” the report says, “the popular notion that recruited athletes tend to
come from minority and indigent families turns out to be just false; at least
among the highly selective institutions, the vast bulk of recruited athletes are in
sports that are rarely available to low-income, particularly urban schools.”
Any investigation should be ready to find that white students are not the most
put-upon group when it comes to race-based admissions policies. That title
probably belongs to Asian American students who, because so many of them
are stellar achievers academically, have often had to jump through higher hoops
than any other students in order to gain admission.
the advantage of having a well-connected relative
At the University of Texas at Austin, an investigation found that
recommendations from state legislators and other influential people helped
underqualified students gain acceptance to the school. This is the same school
that had to defend its affirmative action program for racial minorities before the
U.S. Supreme Court.
And those de facto advantages run deep. Beyond legacy and connections,
consider good old money. “The Price of Admission: How America's Ruling Class
Buys Its Way into Elite Colleges — and Who Gets Left Outside the Gates,” by
Daniel Golden, details how the son of former Sen. Bill Frist was accepted at
Princeton after his family donated millions of dollars.
Businessman Robert Bass gave $25 million to Stanford University, which then
accepted his daughter. And Jared Kushner’s father pledged $2.5 million to
Harvard University, which then accepted the student who would become
Trump’s son-in-law and advisor.

If you gathered all of the poor working class white voters in America and all
of the "racially resentful" voters (I'll just call them racists, because that's what
they are), you'd find that a higher percentage of the racists voted for trump
than the poor people.

But if you had read every New York Times fluff piece about trump voters in
rural diners, you would never believe that fact. Somehow, the news story
"rural and small-town white working class people were more likely to vote
Republican in 2016 than they were in previous elections" turned into "every
white working class person in America adores trump".

I figured out that the news media was handling trump with kid gloves when I
read multiple news stories in early 2016 about his "charisma" and his ability
to "tell it like it is" at his rallies, and then I decided to actually watch a rally. I
had to quit after 20 minutes, because he lacked any form of charisma, and
his speech was essentially the script of a primetime Fox News show as read
by a senile grandpa who lost his reading glasses. He had ZERO appeal to
anybody who wasn't already deep in a far right echo chamber, like Fox News
or online alt-right forums.

I can somewhat sympathize with the idea that trump attracted voters who
feel like they're in "flyover country" and that the modern world has passed
them by, because if you smash your forehead with a 2×4 and then
immediately listen to a trump rally, you can sort of claim that trump is
addressing those concerns. But then if you listen to the other 90% of his
speech, you find that he has the exact same delusions about modern
America as a millionaire who lives in a gated retirement community in Florida
and hasn't worked since the Reagan administration. To anybody who watches
one of his rallies with no prior expectations, it seems like a prank, because it's
blindingly obvious that trump is a narcissistic, sociopathic lifelong con man
who was born with a silver spoon in his asshole and never did an honest
day's work in his miserable life. But I suppose that's where the racial
resentment comes in, because I have no other explanation for how a self-
respecting 55 year old factory worker from the Midwest could fail to see
through trump's obvious grift.

4chan, "intellectual dark web" new Joe Rogan fans, and "just asking

Conservatives on Reddit brag about pushing every local crime story to

the top of targeted local subreddits but not their local ones (even
though statistically they have more homicides and crime in conservative
areas, those aren't their top posts every single day in their local
subreddits) and pushing race-baiting videos of "a minority behaving
badly somewhere" by brigading to "red pill" "control the narrative"
about liberal cities and blue states

The real value is getting into a thread early and establishing top voted
posts and comments or downvoting them out of existence. They hope
intertia continues the trend for them.
SeattleWA has one mentally ill man who makes literally dozens and
dozens of alt accounts to post conservative talking points from and how
he finds black women disgusting. I become aware of his accounts when
he posts in TV subs I ban him from, and he always has user history in
similar sets of subreddits across his accounts, SeattleWA being the most
telling. He will use these accounts to talk with himself or dogpile a
comment or thread.

One Texas conservative in r/sanfrancisco was 10 different accounts, all

having a history of identical comments (some comments about living in
Texas), sometimes pretending to be annoying woke strawman "S J W" saying
there is no crime by blacks so that his own alts can reply with black crime
talking points

Wow. Jesus. This is... really, really thorough. Thank you for putting in all
this hard work.
When I was a teenager, I spent a lot of time on /b/, /pol/, 888chan, etc. It
was a slow descent and I didn't even realize what was happening until it
was almost too late.
But during my time on the other side, this was 100% the gameplan. They'd
make "sock puppets" and coordinate on the board + IRC (showing my age
here) to selectively choose targets to brigade.
Depending on the target, you'd either have some talking points to
"debate" (sometimes with yourself/other anons working alongside you) or
you'd go in there guns blazing trying to cause as much damage/chaos as
you can. However, even then you can't go out there yelling slurs (you'd just
get banned instantly); you have to maintain some level of plausible
deniability by framing things as "jokes" or thought experiments.
You purposely do bad-faith arguments because the time it takes for them
to dig up sources and refute you is longer than it takes for you to make
stuff up. You can vary how obvious the bad faith argument is; when you
want to troll you make very stupid claims (I once claimed I was a graduate
of "Harvad University" and when people assumed that I meant "Harvard" I
would correct them right down to Photoshopped images).
When you just want to cause dissent you do exactly what those /pol/
screenshots do: you get to a thread early (sometimes you even make it
yourself) and present reasonable-sounding arguments which are
completely false if anyone bothers to look into them. If someone does,
you bury the message under strawmen, downvotes, reports, and
sockpuppets.
So yeah. The tactics have evolved slightly, but I still recognize them. Props
to you on doing the digging to find all this stuff and bring it into the light.
I doubt that it'll help in the majority of cases, mind. People on Reddit have
already made up their mind. You want to go after the forums and BBSes,
on the MSN News comments and whatnot. Even so, the more people who
are aware of the tactics the more people who can call them out.

miss when they organized to get criminals arrested or just to prank

groomed into asshole bigots. Weirdly enough it also seems even
more bigoted than 20 yrs ago if that's even possible. Maybe it's a

Liberal policies, like California’s, keep

blue-state residents living longer
U.S. should follow California’s lead to improve its
health outcomes, researchers say
It generated headlines in 2015 when the average life
expectancy in the U.S. began to fall after decades of
meager or no growth.
But it didn’t have to be that way, a team of researchers
suggests in a new, peer-reviewed study Tuesday. And, in
fact, states like California, which have implemented a
broad slate of liberal policies, have kept pace with
their Western European counterparts.
Simply shifting from the most conservative labor laws
to the most liberal ones, Montez said, would by itself
increase the life expectancy in a state by a whole year.
If every state implemented the most liberal policies in all
16 areas, researchers said, the average American
woman would live 2.8 years longer, while the average
American man would add 2.1 years to his life.
Whereas, if every state were to move to the most
conservative end of the spectrum, it would decrease

estimate the U.S. will add about 0.4 years to its
average life expectancy.
Meanwhile, the life expectancy in states like California
and Hawaii, which has the highest in the nation at 81.6
years, is on par with countries described by
researchers as “world leaders:” Canada, Iceland and
Sweden.
The study, co-authored by researchers at six North
American universities, found that if all 50 states had all
followed the lead of California and other liberal-leaning
states on policies ranging from labor, immigration and
civil rights to tobacco, gun control and the environment, it
could have added between two and three years to the
average American life expectancy.
“We can take away from the study that state policies and
state politics have damaged U.S. life expectancy since
the ’80s,” said Jennifer Karas Montez, a Syracuse
University sociologist and the study’s lead author. “Some
policies are going in a direction that extend life
expectancy. Some are going in a direction that shorten
it. But on the whole, that the net result is that it’s
damaging U.S. life expectancy.”
Montez and her team saw the alarming numbers in 2015
and wanted to understand the root cause. What they
found dated back to the 1980s, when state policies
began to splinter down partisan lines. They examined
135 different policies, spanning over a dozen different
fields, enacted by states between 1970 and 2014, and
assigned states “liberalism” scores from zero — the most
conservative — to one, the most liberal. When they
compared it against state mortality data from the same
timespan, the correlation was undeniable.
“When we’re looking for explanations, we need to be
looking back historically, to see what are the roots of
these troubles that have just been percolating now for 40
years,” Montez said.
From 1970 to 2014, California transformed into the
most liberal state in the country by the 135 policy
markers studied by the researchers. It’s followed closely
by Connecticut, which moved the furthest leftward from
where it was 50 years ago, and a cluster of other states in
the northeastern U.S., then Oregon and Washington.

an average of 81.3 years, is among the highest in the
country.
In the same time, Oklahoma moved furthest to the right,
but Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina and a host of
other southern states still ranked as more conservative,
according to the researchers.
West Virginia ranked last in 2017, with an average life
expectancy of about 74.6 years, which would put it 93rd in
the world, right between Lithuania and Mauritius, and
behind Honduras, Morocco, Tunisia and Vietnam.
Mississippi, Oklahoma and South Carolina rank only
slightly better.
It’s those states that moved in a conservative direction,
researchers concluded, that held back the overall life
expectancy in the U.S.

Hospitals that adopted the toolkit saw a 21 percent

By 2013, according to Main, maternal deaths in California

California policies increase American life expectancy and

prop up America's entire economy:

California is the chief reason America is the only

developed economy to achieve record GDP growth
since the financial crisis.
Much of the U.S. growth can be traced to California

accountability and protections for undocumented
people

Texans come in droves into California every day, but even

a small percentage of a larger number (just 10 people
moving into a town of 10 is a 100% increase) will be larger
than a large percentage of a smaller population (Texas or
other red states moving to California which has over
30,000,000 so doesn't notice the newcomers as much nor
hate on them as much either)

California's coast has also had droves moving in for over

100 years, so an emptier space that hasn't had as many
droves (Texas) will show a greater percentage increase in
later years

They also "welcome thy neighbor" more than Texans ̄\_

Same reason so many people leave Texas and so many

other states moved to California to make it so populous in
the first place (cheap new housing in suburbs when

The other direction looks more noticeable per capita

because small percent of a big number looks so much
bigger

Even 1% of California is 1/3 million but as much as 10% of

other states is not that much

California's coast has also been moved into for over 100

(Texas) will show a greater percentage increase in later
years

California’s Energy Efficiency

Success Story: Saving Billions of
Dollars and Curbing Tons of
Pollution
California’s long, bipartisan history of promoting
energy efficiency—America‘s cheapest and cleanest
energy resource—has saved Golden State residents
more than $65 billion,[1] helped lower their residential
electricity bills to 25 percent below the national
average,[2] and contributed to the state’s continuing
leadership in creating green jobs.[3] These
achievements have helped California avoid at least 30
power plants[4] and as much climate-warming carbon

nearly flat over the past 40 years while the other 49
states increased their average per capita use by more
than 50 percent, as shown in Figure 1. This
accomplishment is due to investment in research and
development of more efficient technologies, utility
programs that help customers use those tools to lower
their bills, and energy efficiency standards for new
buildings and appliances.

Californians $65 billion since the 1970s.[8] It has also
helped slash their annual electric bills to the ninth-
lowest level in the nation, nearly $700 less than that of
the average Texas household, for example.[9]
Lower utility bills also improve California’s economic
productivity. Since 1980, the state has increased the
bang for the buck it gets out of electricity and now
produces twice as much economic output for every
kilowatt-hour consumed, compared with the rest of the
country.[11] California also continues to lead the
nation in new clean-energy jobs, thanks in part to
looking first to energy efficiency to meet power needs.

programs and standards have saved about 15,000

California’s rules have cleaned up diesel exhaust more

than anywhere else in the country, reducing the
estimated number of deaths the state would have
otherwise seen by more than half, according to new
research published Thursday.
Extending California's stringent diesel emissions
standards to the rest of the U.S. could dramatically
improve the nation's air quality and health, particularly
in lower income communities of color, finds a new
analysis published today in the journal Science.
Since 1990, California has used its authority under the
federal Clean Air Act to enact more aggressive rules on
emissions from diesel vehicles and engines compared
to the rest of the U.S. These policies, crafted by the
California Air Resources Board (CARB), have helped the
state reduce diesel emissions by 78% between 1990
and 2014, while diesel emissions in the rest of the U.S.
dropped by just 51% during the same time period, the
new analysis found.
The study estimates that by 2014, improved air quality
cut the annual number of diesel-related
cardiopulmonary deaths in the state in half, compared
to the number of deaths that would have occurred if
California had followed the same trajectory as the rest
of the U.S. Adopting similar rules nationwide could
produce the same kinds of benefits, particularly for
communities that have suffered the worst impacts of
air pollution.
"Everybody benefits from cleaner air, but we see time
and again that it's predominantly lower income
communities of color that are living and working in
close proximity to sources of air pollution, like freight

UPDATED THREAD. You're going to hear a lot

about how cops need more resources
because "crime is surging" in the next few
months. It's propaganda, and here's how you
can respond:

some crimes committed by some people in
some places. A school fight in a poor
neighborhood is recorded as a “crime,” but a
fight in a wealthy private school is not. Read
hundreds of examples here:
Fourth, police have incentives to focus on
some “crimes” and not others. They make
billions of $ in overtime for low-level arrests.
This is one reason cops have ignored
100,000s of untested rape kits while making
record drug arrests for decades.
Fifth, police corruption in search of extra cash
and weapons affects all of what cops do and
what they tell us about what they do. For
example, police take more property through
civil forfeiture than all “property crimes”
combined.

Eleventh, these are millions of yearly white-

wealthy people who own them but police
don’t put them in their crime stats. Read
more here about why cops distort the
concepts of "crime" and actual harm.
Thirteenth, the initial 2021 trend of more

that increased police funding, and almost
no city decreased police funding significantly.

The result of this manipulation is one of the

cash to cops b/c of “crime” don’t count the
costs: millions of arrests; millions of
separated kids; millions of lost jobs, homes,
medical appointments; tens of millions of
police assaults; hundreds of millions of
criminal records.

So I just got a permanent ban from r/Therightcantmeme with a message

of "no liberals" out of left field. At first I thought their mods were hacked
or something. Could it be a tactic like this? Or is that subreddit actually
just full of insufferable lefty purists? I know for a fact that I didn't post
anything that could be misconstrued as right wing or conservative.

They aren’t conservatives, or leftist purists, they are anti-capitalists

(aka leftists, I can go into how leftism isn’t “left of society” but rather
has semi static borders if you want). This isn’t some “conservative
strategy” r/therightcantmeme has always been been specifically
anti-capitalist, yes it (might have) cracked down “recently” but that
was years ago. Look at the mods, for example u/Lenins2ndcat, they
have years of post history and post insanely detailed pinned
comments with links and all. They are a moderator on most of the
leftists subs. That’s a fuck ton of dedication to possibly piss off a few
libs that claim to be leftist.

You did so much work for this thread, then resort to calling leftists
right wing bc they don’t like American imperialism

I totally agree, and I normally would upvote this comment, but I

can’t upvote you because you’re on the left. Just, how can
someone be so obviously WRONG in their ideology, yet think it’s
right? Leftism is about the government controlling healthcare,
Wall Street, and how much money one has, and completely
destroying the economy with expensive plans like the green new
deal. Sure, trust the government, the only reason other counties
make free healthcare work is huge taxes and they still have a
free market, so you can’t hate capitalism. Life under leftism
sucks- there’s a huge tax increase; if you need proof, people are
fleeing California. Or, cuomo can be in charge and kill the
elderly, Hillary can be shady, Biden can be creepier. And of
course, stupid communists who think the government should
force everyone to be equal and has led to the deaths of millions,
and the SJWs who wrap back around to being racist and sexist
buy saying “kill all whites” and “kill all men.” It’s been the left
who has been rioting as well, many of which have lead to
murders, and wishing death upon trump. Not all cops are good,

liberals, which aren’t necessarily leftists but heavily correlated,
who ruin someone’s life for a joke they made a year ago in the
form of doxxing- and “canceling” everyone. and they tend to get
triggered easily and have no sense of humour (anecdotal, I
admit, but still). Yes, I know you should respect opposing beliefs
as long as they aren’t completely insane, but the fact that you’re
so blatantly WRONG shows your ignorance, and therefore part
of your character. So even though I totally agree with your
comment, it is quick witted and accurate, but I can’t upvote you.
