Superior Cervical Ganglion
✓Biggest
✓C1-4
✓Internal carotid n.- makes int. car. pl.
✓Conarii n- to the pineal gl.
✓Deep petrous n. +great petrosal n. of
VII= Vidian n.(pterygoid canal n.)-Blood
vessels and mucous glands of head and
neck
✓Sup. Cer. Cardiac n.- to the cardiac pl.
✓External car. n.- makes ext. car. pl.
Middle Cervical Ganglion
• Thyroid cartilage, C5-C6, smallest
• Branches for thyroid, parathyr. glands,
eosophagus and trachea
• Cardiac plexus- middle cer. car.
n.(biggest)
Inferior Cervical Ganglion
(+T1=STELLAT)
• Cervicothoracic ganglion
• Inferior card. n.- to the card. pl.
• C7-8-T1 pulmonary apex, vertebral a.
• Ansa Subclavia (Vieussens ring)- a
branch from middle cer. g. reaches to
the stellat g. via passing ant., inf. and
post. to the 1st part of subclavian a.
Thoracal Chain Ganglia
• Greater splanchnic n.- T5-9(10)
• fibers pass through paravert. g. without
synapse
• Synapse mostly in coeliac g.(prevert.)
• Lesser splanchnic n.- T(9)10-11
• Least(lowest) splanchnic n.(renal n.)- T12
• Synapse in aorticorenal g.(lower part of
coeliac g./prevert.)
• Gang. IMPAR- connects left and right side
sympathetic chains, located in end of the
coccyx
Lumbar Sympathetic
Ganglia

• Lumbal splanchnic nn

How do sympathetic fibers reach the end
organ?

• Joining spinal nn (to erector pili, sweat gl,

vess)
• Joining cranial nn
• Around arteries
• Independent fibers directly to organs (pre
syn)
• To large autonomic plexuses and
prevertebral ganglia (pre or postsynaptic)
