“The Golden Age of Comics”

To begin with, the Golden Age of Comics refers to the period from the late

1930s to the middle 1940s when comic books gained immense popularity in

the United States. The modern comic book originated in the early 1930s as a

promotional tool for household products. Comic books printed in bright colors

became highly sought after, leading to the production of monthly comic books

sold for a dime each. Famous Funnies in 1934 was the first serialized book of

comics. Original characters like Superman in 1938 and Batman in 1939 were

introduced, paving the way for the superhero genre. By 1945, the US saw the

publication of around 160 different comic books monthly, with 90% of

American children regularly reading them
