There are three types of rocks : Igneous, Metamorphic and Sedimentary.

The igneous
rocks form due to cooling down of magma. This cooling down can happen by
crystalization when it's intrusive and by consilidation when it is extrusive. The
sedimentary rocks form due to compaction and cementation of sediments which is
called Lithification. The Metamorphic rock forms when other rocks convert into
metamorphic rocks due to extreme heat and pressure. This is called the
Metamorphism. All the rocks can convert into Metamorphic rock including metamorphic
itself. All the rocks can melt in the mantle, become magma and then cool down to
become the Igneous rock. The sedimentary rocks, metamorphic rocks and the intrusive
rocks after exposure and uplift, due to weathering, transportation and deposition
become sediments and through lithification become sedimentary rocks. Extrusive
Igenous rocks also due to weathering becomes sediments and turn into sedimentary
rocks.
