MODULE IV: Quality Culture

UNIT 4
TITLE: Demonstrate relevance of establishing and maintain
quality culture in industry

OBJECTIVES
After studying Module IV, you are expected to perform the following
learning tasks:

 Differentiate the quality culture with traditional culture


 Discuss the factors affecting cultural change.
 Explain the steps in building a foundation to create a quality culture in
the organization.
 Discuss the process in establishing and maintaining a culture of
quality.

INTRODUCTION
A culture is a way of life of a group of people. Culture includes the values, beliefs, and behaviors
of certain group of people carried from one generation to another.

An organization comprises of people from different religious beliefs and practices. Thus, a
company must have a set of values, beliefs and practices that will lead towards the attainment of its
goals.

This module will specifically focus on building and establishing a quality culture in an
organization.

Abstraction:
A. Culture - the set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes an
institution or organization. (merriam-webster.com)

Organizational culture – Refers to the fundamental belief about the how work is performed,
may be acceptable and not, what actions are encouraged what are not. (Atkinson)

According to Henry Mintzberg, culture is considered to be the soul of an institution.


Quality culture - an environment where team members genuinely care about the quality of their
work, and make decisions based on achieving that level of quality. (Jon Speer, July 28, 2019)

How to maintain a Quality Culture:


Maintain an awareness of Quality as a key cultural issue.
Make sure that there is plenty of evidence of Management’s leadership.
Empower Employees and encourage self-development and self-initiative.
Recognize and reward the behaviors that tend to nurture and maintain Quality Culture.

Application 1 – Activity
Infographics
As a Department Head in an Electronics company, you would like to promote and
inculcate a Quality Culture among your team members. You thought of hanging an
infographics on the wall of your department as one of the ways to always remind your
team members about Quality Culture.

Design an infographics highlighting the Seven Tips for creating a Quality Culture.
The size of the infographics must be 15'' x 20'' (1/4 illustration board).

Softcopy of the infographics design must be submitted on or before October 31, 2020.
(For those of you, who chose modular approach, please submit the hardcopy of your
infographics design on or before October 31, 2020)
