CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

How important is the work in a person’s life and for the whole family? How can

we live in a good condition if we don’t have enough supply for our own needs? Can we

take apart our wants and needs for our own good? It was too natural that Filipino’s were

good at doing small businesses here in the Philippines. Most of all, they used their own

profit to feed their family and spend it for daily needs. Philippines has many small

businesses than you ever think. Most of those are food stalls.

Does making your own small business truly gives anyone an enough hand for

suffering poverty? Poverty was the first problem in the Philippines, so that Filipino’s used

to make their own “Negosyo”. It was a great idea to have a business even if it was small,

but then it was worth it for those who do hard works not until people face an invisible

enemy.

This past year, all of the people encountered the pandemic that was called

COVID-19. Due to the quarantine, most of all businesses are closed. How does the

pandemic affect the small businesses? What was the impact that the pandemic made

through small businesses?

The importance of this research is to know the impact of pandemic on small

businesses is San Antonio, Zambales. This study was all about the impact of pandemic on

small businesses in San Antonio, Zambales.

Statement of the Problem

This study aimed to find out the impact of pandemic on small businesses in San

Antonio, Zambales. To answer the general problem, data will be gathered with the aid of

the following question.

1. How may the profile of the respondents may describe in terms of:

1.3 Status

2. How did you feel when the pandemic suddenly appears and happen?

3. What usually problems you encounter by keeping your business during this time

ofpandemic?

Figure 1 shows the conceptual framework of the study. Under the box it contains the

respondent’s profile and enumerates the following: gender, age, and status. In process it

serves as the total in gathering information which is by survey questionnaires and

frequency distribution in analyzing the data. Last is output it is the desired

outcome/result and reasons in conducting the research.

Scope and Limitations

This study is done to determine the impact of pandemic on small businesses in

San Antonio, Zambales.

This study is conducted San Antonio, Zambales with 10 respondents whose age is

range to 18-60. It starts on the month of June and ends in the month of July.

Significance of the Study

This study will be beneficial to the following:

Community: This study will be beneficial to the community, through reading this

study; they will know the impact of pandemic on small businesses.

Customers: This study will be beneficial to the customers, so that they will be aware

on how business owners face it.

Students: This study will be beneficial to the students to give information regarding

the impact of a pandemic on small businesses.

Researcher: This study will be beneficial to the researcher they will know about this

kind of problem and impact of pandemic in terms of small businesses.

Definition of Terms

• Pandemic - an epidemic that spreads to more than one continent.

• COVID-19 a disease caused by a new strain of coronavirus. 'CO' stands for

corona, 'VI' for virus, and 'D' for disease. Formerly, this disease was referred

to as '2019 novel coronavirus' or '2019-nCoV.'

• Profit - a financial gain, especially the difference between the amount earned

and the amount spent in buying, operating, or producing something.

• Poverty - the state of being extremely poor.

• Small business - an independently owned and operated company that is

limited in size and in revenue depending on the industry.

• Quarantine - a state, period, or place of isolation in which people or animals

that have arrived from elsewhere or been exposed to infectious or contagious

disease are placed.

• Profile - a short article giving a description of a person or organization.

• Researcher - a person who carries out academic or scientific research.

• Respondents - a person who replies to something, especially one supplying

information for a survey or questionnaire or responding to an advertisement.

• Negosyo – a Filipino word which means is work relating to the production,

buying , and selling of goods or services.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

The following literature and studies help and guide the researcher to better

understand the topic to be investigated in locating more source of related information.

According to Antamedia (2018), computer shops deals with internet time that a

customer buys and it can be sold per hour or minute and sometimes longer.

According to Learn.org (2018), computer attendants monitor computer labs in academic

or public settings and help authorized users with any problems that may arise. They may

also work with computer networks to make sure users can access and use them.

According to R.L. Adams (2016), technology's ever-pervading permeation into every last

fiber and morsel of society has caused a dramatic upheaval in the way we live, work and

entertain ourselves.

According to M. Santos (2012), Filipinos accessed the Internet mostly through personal

computers either at home, 50 percent, or at Internet cafes, 49 percent.

According to I. Escolar (2017), every business or institution uses a computer to

effectively operate its operations.

technological deviance.

processes of work.

our economy. We can travel abroad with the help of a computer such as internet access.

According to the STI college (2019), it helps develop a work, it simplifies our activities so

we grow fast.

CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the methodologies used by the researcher in accumulating

and analyzing the data. It also presents the business or firm, the respondents, data

gathering and data analysis procedure of the study.

Research Design

This research is descriptive in nature. It attempts to describe systematically a

situation, problem, phenomenon, service or program or provides information about

daily living condition of a community or describes attitudes towards an issue. It is done

with the help of survey questionnaires.

Respondents of the Study

The respondents of the study were the small businesses owners in San Antonio,

Zambales. There were 10 respondents, their age ranges from 18-60.

Local of the Study

This research was conducted at San Antonio, Zambales.

Data Gathering Procedure

First, the researcher created questionnaires and validated by the research

adviser. After that, the researcher distributed the questionnaire to the chosen 10

respondents. They shared their insights about the impact of the pandemic on their small

businesses in San

Antonio, Zambales.

This chapter presents how gathered data were analyzed and presented with

organization for better understanding.

Question 1: Did your small business still works even this time of pandemic?

• Sometimes, you must be patient especially when there’s a lot of customer you’ll

need to focus on.

• You must be patient and must be professional in explaining them what to do and

that you can do what they exactly want.

• Being a computer assistant is like helping other people.

• Hectic, but in the end of the day it’s fulfilling because every day I’m learning new

things.

• Some customers ask for unreasonable task.

• Sometimes feel pressure because they want rush.

• Too much excitement to assisted. Students are always on-the-go when it comes

to online games.

• It was hard and having trouble when it comes in multi-tasking every time many

customers are coming.

• Make self-more compatible to others and teaches self on how to accommodate

customer.

• Fun.

Question 2: How did you feel when you the pandemic suddenly appear and happens?

Answer: According to 5or 50% out of 10 respondents answers that they feel happy and

fun because they can help someone, learning new things, and they are capable in their

job. 1 or 10% out of 10 respondent’s answers that he is stressed out. 1 or 10% out of 10

respondents answer that he feels satisfied when he reach the customers expectation but

sometimes making mistakes and feel bad about it. 1 or 10% out of 10 respondents

answer that he enhances skills by trying to help costumer. 1 or 10% out of 10

respondents answer a little bit tense but the more customers you assist the more

experience you gain.1 or 10% out of 10 respondents answer feel great giving customer

what they want is more important to satisfy their need.

Question 3: What are the usual problems you encounter by keeping your business during

this time of pandemic?

Answer: According to 3 or 30% out of 10 respondents answers that the usual problems

that they encounter is students who doesn’t know how to use Microsoft applications. 4

or 40% out of 10 respondents answers broken printers, no internet connection and

corrupted files. 1 or 10% out of 10 respondents answer when he/she did wrong the

customer fell frustrated about it. 1 or 10% out of 10 respondents answer impatient

customers. 1 or 10% out of 10 respondents answer too loud noises and too much

demand.

Question 4: How can you accommodate when there’s a lot of pending customers?

Answer: According to 4 or 40% out of 10 respondents answers to do multi-tasking. 3 or

30% out of 10 respondent’s answers tell the costumers to wait. 1 or 10% out of 10

respondent’s answer he/she needs to move fast. 1 or 10% out of 10 respondents answer

first come, first serve. 1 or 10% out of 10 respondents answer focus on the easiest to the

most complicated and finish it on the time given.

Question 5: How would you describe the effect of the pandemic in your small business?

Answer: According to 5 or 50% out of 10 respondents answers easy, no problem in their

meal times because they have some other colleague to help them. 3 or 30% out of 10

respondents answers they’re having their meal time when they don’t have customers. 1

or 10% out of 10 respondents answer eating late is part of their job but its fine. 1 or 10%

out of 10 respondents answer well manage through software you can do multi-tasking.

CHAPTER V

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter presents the summarized findings of the study, the conclusion

drawn and the gathered data. It also includes the recommendation made by the

researcher regarding the impact of pandemic in small businesses in San Antonio,

Zambales.
