Introduction

In this project, we explore the fascinating world of cooling

technology by creating a mini air cooler. Our goal is to design a
compact and efficient cooling system that can be easily replicated
using readily available materials. By understanding the principles
behind air cooling, we aim to demonstrate how simple yet effective
solutions can enhance our daily lives.

Project overview

Our mini air cooler operates on the concept of

evaporative cooling. Evaporation of water lowers the
air temperature, which is then blown out through the
vent. This cooling process is both economical and
environmentally friendly. By harnessing the power of
ice cubes, a small fan, and a plastic bottle, we’ve
created a portable cooling device suitable for various
applications.
Materials used

To construct our mini air cooler, we gathered the following

materials:

1. Plastic bottles(small and large): The main housing for our cooler and
served as the cooling channel.
2. DC Motor: Powers the fan.
3. Battery: Provides energy for the motor.
4. Wires: Connect the components.
5. Hot Glue Gun: Used for assembly.
6. Scissors: For cutting plastic.
7. White Paper: Used for marking and design.
8. small fan: provides airflow to enhance cooling
9. battery cell: supplies energy to the motor.
10. ice cube: essential for evaporative cooling.
11. cardboard: used for structural support and base.
Procedure of making

1. Prepare the Base:

Cut cardboard pieces to create a stable base for the cooler.
2. Assemble the Housing:
Attach the large plastic bottle to the base.
Cut an opening in the bottle lid to accommodate the DC motor.
3. Create the Cooling Channel:
Shape the small plastic bottle and attach it inside the large bottle.
Ensure a clear path for airflow.
4. Mount the Components:
Fix the DC motor inside the large bottle.
Attach the fan to the motor shaft.
Connect the wires to the motor and battery.
5. Add Ice Cubes:
Place ice cubes inside the large bottle.
6. Test the Cooler:
Turn on the switch to activate the motor and fan.
Observe the airflow through the cooling channel.
Result and key findings

After designing and constructing our mini air cooler, we conducted several
tests to evaluate its performance. Key findings are;
Cooling Efficiency: Our mini air cooler effectively lowered the ambient
temperature within a small area. By utilizing the principle of evaporative
cooling, it provided a refreshing breeze.
Energy Efficiency: Compared to traditional air conditioning systems, our
cooler consumed significantly less energy. Evaporative cooling relies on
water evaporation, which requires minimal power. This makes it an eco-
friendly and cost-effective solution.
It is best suited for small spaces, such as a desk area, bedside table, or
personal workspace.
Airflow: The amount of air circulated by a mini cooler is limited. It won’t
match the airflow capacity of a full-sized air conditioner. Therefore, it’s
essential to manage expectations regarding cooling power.
Background research

Before designing of mini air cooler, we conducted thorough background

research to understand the principles and existing technologies related to
cooling systems. Here are the key points we discovered:

Evaporative Cooling: Evaporative coolers, utilize the natural process of

water evaporation to lower air temperature. They are commonly used in
arid climates due to their energy efficiency and eco-friendliness.
Heat Transfer Mechanisms: We explored the basics of heat transfer,
focusing on conduction, convection, and radiation. Understanding these
mechanisms helped us optimize our cooler’s design for efficient cooling.
Materials Selection: Our research involved studying various materials
suitable for constructing the cooler. We considered factors such as thermal
conductivity, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
