 ABSTRACT

In this study,Nida,Newmark’s functional equivalence and preference approach in

subtitle and dubbing translation will be criticized through Robert Zemeckis’s movie
Cast Away.In this approach ,the meaning should be conveyed correctly and
effectively.If a word ,sentence or any other text in the subtitle if the expression can’t be
translated, an equivalent or close expression should be used in the target text.In
dubbing,the emotional and visual materials in the film or TV series should not affect the
target audience differently,should provide same effect,and the same emotion should be
reflected and preserved .Equal expression should be used and intonations should be
preserved as much as possible.when it comes to film translation ,a film can be translated
for any culture .For this reason, one of the things we need to pay particular attention to
when translating a film in order to convey the meaning and emotion is culture.because
the cultural element in the source text may not be in the target audience,an equivalent
or closest meaning must be found. In this study ,the theory of two theorists will be
shown in practice.The film was written and shot by Robert Zemeckis. The subject of the
film is that the plane in which Chuck,who works as a system analyst at the FedEx
company,is flying for bussines purposes, crashes and Nolan is left alone on a deserted
islan.He tries to struggle for life here. In this study, it will be eamined how the elements
in that film are transferred to the target audience while a film is being transated.

ÖZET
Bu çalışmada Robert Zemeckis’in Yeni Hayat (Cast Away) filmi üzerinden Altyazı ve
Dublaj çevirisinde Nida, Newmark’ın İşlevsel Eşdeğerlik ve Tercih Yaklaşımı
eleştirilecektir.Bu yaklaşımda anlam doğru ve etkili bir biçimde
aktarılmalıdır.Altyazıda eğer bir kelime, cümle ya da herhangi bir ifade çevrilemiyorsa,
hedef metinde onu karşılayabilecek eş değer veya yakın bir ifade kullanılmaya
çalışılmalıdır.Dublajda ise film ya da dizideki duygusal ve görsel materyaller hedef
kitledeki izleyicileri farklı şekilde etkilememelidir aynı etkiyi sağlamalıdır , aynı duygu
yansıtılmalı ve korunmalıdır. Eş değer ifadeler kullanılmaya çalışılmalı ve tonlamalar
mümkün olduğunca korunmalıdır. Film çevirisine gelince bir film herhangi bir kültür
için çevrilebilir bu sebepten ötürü anlamı ve duyguyu aktarabilmek için filmi çevirirken
özellikle dikkat etmemiz gereken şeylerden biri de kültürdür.Çünkü kaynak metindeki
kültürel öğe hedef kitlede olmayabilir buna da eş değer veya en yakın anlam
bulunmalıdır. Bu çalışma iki teorisyenin teorisi uygulamalı olarak gösterilecektir .Film
Robert Zemeckis tarafından yazılmış ve çekilmiştir .Film’in konusunda ise FedEx
şirketinde sistem analizi olarak çalışan Chuck’un olduğu uçak iş amacıyla uçtuğu
sırada uçak düşer ve Nolan ıssız bir adada tek başına kalır. Burada yaşam mücadelesi
vermeye çalışır. Bu çalışmada bir film çevrilirken o filmdeki öğelerin nasıl karşı yani
hedef kitleye aktarıldığı incelenecektir.
