It will generally be found that those who know what it is to have been in need and destitution are
very much less afraid of it, and consequently more inclined to extravagance, than those who
know poverty only by hearsay. People who have been born and bred in good circumstancs & are
as a rule much more careful about the future, more economical, in fact that those who by a piece
of good luck, have suddenly passed from poverty to wealth. This book as if poverty was not
really such a very wretched thing as it appears from a distance. The true reason however is rather
the fact the man who has something without which he could no more live than he could live
without air.

(A)Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follow: (Q. No. 21-25)
Marks: 5 X 2 = 10
All the natural resources are found on the earth in varying qualities. Some of
them are found in small amounts while
others are abundant. Even the distribution of these resources is not uniform. Some parts of
the earth are rich in one or more resources, while others are deficient. As there is disparity
in the distribution of these resources. Whereas some nations utilize more resources, others
do not have enough to meet the requirements of their people. Thus the unequal
distribution, as well as utilization of natural resources has widened the gulf between the
developed and the developing, or the rich and the poor nations of the world. The growth of
population and the scientific and technological advancement have increased the pressure in
natural resources. As a result, several resources such as coal and petroleum may be
completely exhausted in the near future. Unlike we utilize our natural resources
judiciously and find out alternative sources as well, our future generation will have to
suffer our account.

its title: Marks : 10
There are more literate people in India today than ever before. But there are also
more illiterate than ever before. More children go to school than at any time in the
past. But more children today are out of school than any time in the past. But it is not
enough to blame the high birth rate for this state of affairs. Indeed, it can be
reasonable argued that continued mass illiteracy is not the result, but the cause of the
high birth rate. Consequently, the spread of literacy can be a potent weapon of socio
economic development. Unfortunately official thought and planning in this regard
has betrayed a failure of perception. The problem of illiteracy is related to but not
the same as that of education. And while it is a colossal task to provide proper and
full academic education to all children and youth in the country. The eradicating
illiteracy calls for a different and less leisurely blueprint. The following measures will
be in the right direction; more primary schools, new part-time educational centers
for those who cannot attend regular schools, and functional literacy centers for
adults, especially in semi-urban and rural areas.
