Topic of the Lesson: Unit 3 On Broadway!
Have to, must and need

OBJECTIVES:

1. PEDAGOGICAL

- to revise obligation (have to, must) and introduce need


- making a difference between must and need

2. EDUCATIONAL

a) language elements:

- vocabulary –revising the previously learned vocabulary


- pronunciation – practising correct pronunciation of the new words and the
old ones
- grammar – revising obligation (have to, must) and introducing need

b) language functions

- to be able to oblige

c) language skills:

- listening (to the teacher, the other students)


- reading (the exercises from the book, the text, students’ examples)
- speaking (when repeating and answering the questions)
- writing (the exercises in the book and other examples on the board)

TEACHING MATERIALS: chart, book, chalk, colour chalks, blackboard

METHODS: eclectic approach (i.e. a combination of the other approaches)

FORMS OF ORGANISING CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES: frontal, individual, group


work and in pairs

LESSON DEVELOPMENT

1. INTRODUCTORY PART

1.2 Revising must and have to. Giving examples.

2. MAIN PART

2.1 Students complete the chart from ex.N˚5. Then they do ex.N˚6.
Optionally, I put a chart on the board as that from ex.N ˚6, read the sentences and
students put crosses or ticks.

2.2 Students study ex.N˚7 and the meanings of need and must. They choose the correct
verbs from ex.N˚8

2.3 Studying the green chart and giving examples.

3. CONCLUDING PART

3.1 Setting a homework assignment from the activity book.
