MY ROOT

Poblacion Sur was created by Republic Act 3509, Barrio Charter. Poblacion Sur is a
village in Mayantoc, Tarlac, Central Luzon and has about 3,130 residents. Poblacion
Sur is situated nearby to the town Mayantoc and the village of Cub-cub, the call it
locally Abagatan. The place was then a forested area where enormous rattan palm
are found. In 1899, Mayantoc was created as a barrio of Camiling and was
inaugurated into a town on January 1, 1917 with Don Francisco Santos Y Pascual, the
Founder of the town, as it's first Municipal President (Executive Order No. 96 on
December 1916) creating Mayantoc as a 16th town of Tarlac and was formally
inaugurated on January 1, 1917. Formerly, it was a Barrio Camiling. The appointment
of Governor General Francis Burton Harrison, who believe in the increase Filipino
participation in the Government and in the Enactment of Jones Law otherwise known
as the Philippine Autonomy Act, inspired the illustrious leaders, Don Francisco P.
Santos and Don AdrianoTolentino to campaign and petition for the conversion of
Mayantoc into a town. The first appointed Municipal President was Antonio Sanz was
ousted by a petition filled by Don Antonio Malong, Don Miguel Celebrado and other
Councilors due to Aristocratic "Kastillan Ways". In an election held on the same year,
Don Francisco P. Santos won and became the first elected Municipal President. As
required for township, there must be a school, market, a church and a "presidencia".
So, Don Francisco P. Santos and his wife Doña Ana Versoza donated parcels of lands
for these purposes and attached these documents to their petition. It is today the site
of the Mayantoc Elementary School, the Towns Public Market, plaza and auditorium
and the Roman Catholic Church. The house of Don Adriano Tolentino became the
"presidencia".
In Poblacion Sur they afford breath taking scenery and nature study at it's best.
Visitors claim it as slice of Eden. Because of these spots so graciously endowed to
this place, Mayantoc is dubbed as the Summer Capital of Tarlac and holds the
destination as the cleanest and most beautiful of Tarlac in the 1960's and 70's.
