Tsunami signs

The type of tsunami determines the quantity of observable tsunami warning signs.
There are two types of tsunamis: local and transoceanic (tele tsunamis). Teletsunamis
have the best chance of being detected and evaluated before official warnings are
issued. Natural warning signs like unusually large, frothy bubbles in the water or a low,
receding waterline can be seen. Official warnings are sent out using technologies such
as telephones, televisions, sirens, NOAA weather radio, CB radio, and tsunami warning
messages sent via the internet.

The seafloor can be seen for hundreds of feet, revealing seaweed, submerged ships,
stranded marine life, and debris. Nick Alokli, a resident of Akhiok and Olga Bay
Narrows, was in Old Harbor during the 1964 earthquake and tsunami and heard the
sound of distant thunder, then like a low-flying helicopter or a loud ocean roar. In the
event of an earthquake, safety precautions require people to quickly move inland and
uphill for low-lying areas along the coast. Before returning, savor the official "all clear"
signal.
