Topic: Force

Knowledge:

Define force and provide three examples of forces in everyday life. (3mks)
Application:

A car is moving with a constant velocity of 30 m/s. Suddenly, the driver applies the brakes, and the car
comes to a stop in 5 seconds. Calculate the force exerted by the brakes on the car if its mass is 1200 kg.
(5mks)

Analysis:

Two objects of different masses are pushed with the same force. Compare and contrast the resulting
accelerations of the objects, considering Newton's second law of motion. (2mks)

Evaluation:

Compare and contrast the forces acting on an object placed on a level surface and an object placed on an
inclined plane. (2mks)
Discuss how the angle of the incline affects the magnitude and direction of the forces exerted on the
object in each scenario. (3mks)

Topic: Pressure
Knowledge:
Define pressure and provide examples of how pressure is measured. (2mks)
Explain the relationship between force, area, and pressure, using appropriate formulas. (3mks)
Analysis:
Compare and contrast the pressure exerted by a person standing on their feet versus lying on a bed.
(2mks)
Analyze how the surface area in contact with the ground affects the pressure exerted by the person in
each position. (3mks)
Comprehension:
Explain the concept of atmospheric pressure and its variations with altitude. (3mks)
Describe how changes in atmospheric pressure affect everyday activities, such as cooking, scuba diving,
and weather patterns. (5mks)

Topic: Electrostatics
Knowledge:
Define electrostatics and provide examples of static electricity phenomena observed in everyday life.
(2mks)
Application:
A plastic rod is rubbed with fur, acquiring a negative charge. Another plastic rod is rubbed with silk,
acquiring a positive charge. If the two rods are brought close together but not allowed to touch, predict
the nature of the interaction between them based on their charges. (2mks)
Analysis:
Analyze how the magnitude of the electrostatic force changes with the distance between charges and the
amount of charge present. (5mks)
Evaluation:
Evaluate the effectiveness of different materials in preventing electrostatic discharge (ESD) in electronic
devices. (3mks)
Comprehension:
Explain the principle behind the operation of a Van de Graaff generator and how it generates static
electricity. (3mks)

Topic: Heat Transfer

Knowledge:
Define heat transfer and identify the three main methods of heat transfe. (4mks)
Application:
A metal spoon is placed in a cup of hot soup. Explain how heat is transferred from the hot soup to the
metal spoon through conduction. (2mks)
Calculate the rate of heat transfer if the initial temperature of the soup is 80°C, the final temperature of
the spoon is 40°C, and the mass of the spoon is 100 grams. (4mks)
Analysis:
Analyze the effectiveness of each method in transferring heat and discuss factors that influence their
efficiency. (4mks)
Compare and contrast conduction, convection, and radiation as methods of heat transfer in a specific
scenario, such as heating a room. (3mks)
