Exercises (7.3.2024)
114/110=1.03 (2011)
109/107=1.01(2012)
118/112=1.05(2013)
122/120=1.01(2014)

(114-100)/100=0.14*100=14% (2010-2011)
(114-109)/114=0.0438*100=4.38% (2011-2012)
(118-109)/109=0.0825*100=8.25% (2012-2013)
(122-118)/118=0.0338*100=3.38% (2013-2014)

2. Answer these questions on the basis of the information given below. The first pie chart gives
the breakup of the total students doing graduation in a city according to their area of
specialization. The second pie chat gives the breakup of the boys doing graduation according to
their area of specialization. The ratio of the number of boys to girls doing graduation is 2:5.
number of girls
(a) If gender ratio = , then what is the gender ratio of students doing
number of boys
Medicine? (A) 3.9 (B) 4.3 (C) 3.5 (D) Cannot be determined
(b) For how many areas of specialization is the number of boys at least half of the number of
girls? (A) 1 (B) 2 (C) 3 (D) 4
(c) What is the ratio of the number of girls in Engineering to the number of boys in others?
(A) 2 : 5 (B) 2 : 3 (C) 3 : 2 (D) Cannot be determined
Solutions
As the rate of boys to girls is given as 2:5 , assume that the number of boys is 200 and the
number of girls is 500.
(a) Gender ratio of girls doing Medicine =39/10=3.9
(b) Only in Arts and Engineering is the number of boys
at least half of the number of girls. Therefore, 2
area.
(c) The number of girls in Engineering = 78
The number of boys in ‘other’ = 52
The required ratio = 78 : 52 = 3 : 2

3. Find the average, median, mode and range of these sequences of consecutive integers.
(a) 16, 18, 12, 14, 16, 13, 21, 91, 21, 72
(b) 298, 299, 300, 301, 302, 303, 304, 305, 306
4. Find the missing value.
(a) John is trying to average 300 miles each day on his trip. If he traveled 306 miles the first day,
284 miles the second day, and 292 miles the third day, how many miles must he travel the
next day to reach his average for the 4 days?
5. Find the interquartile range for each set of values.
(a) 9, 11, 10, 5, 13, 21, 23
(b) 105, 114, 134, 127, 219, 97
