beginning of the process, followed by the heating due to plastic deformation once the forging action
begins. However, effect of external magnetic field on quality of weld is still a matter of
investigation. The changes in the weld microstructures and grain refinement significantly improved
the hardness of the friction stir processed welds over the base metal and gas tungsten arc welds.
They are then brought together under force creating frictional heating which softens (reduces the
YS) the material at and near the joint to facilitate the forging action, which, in turn, produces further
heating. There is an interesting material flow resistance behavior at the RS due to the difference in
mechanical properties. Welding is a typical method of connecting metals and other materials. The
analyses were performed basing on the literature data. In this paper, similarly a review of several
important and different types of papers are discussed with their results, outcomes, the parameters

different materials without melting the work piece material. The present work aims are to investigate
the optimization of SAW parameters of selected material SA516 grade 70 steel of 10 mm thickness,
in order to obtain desired mechanical properties of weld joint. This friction generates heat at the

various Aluminium alloys via Friction stir welding. This paper addresses the current status of friction
stir welding. In this welding, process heat is generated by mechanically induced friction by sliding a
workpiece on another part of it. Individually, both metals are utilized extensively in the automotive
and aerospace industries due to various advantages respectively, including lightweight, high specific
strength, and recyclability. Friction Stir Welding is a solid-state process, which means that the
objects are joined without reaching melting point. The use of activated flux in conventional GTAW
process is one of the most significant advancements for overcoming the shortcomings of GTA
welding, which helps. By varying the process parameters, defect free and high efficiency welded
joints were produced. The yield strength and impact strength shows a decrease for the two samples
with an increase in the welding current. Thousands of inventions has been made in field of Friction
Stir Welding and also successfully being implemented. It covers some of the technical sides which
influence the process and quality of FSW joint. The pressure force is continuously applied to the
workpiece until the weld is formed. While most of the information is related to Aluminium and
magnesium alloys, important results are also available for other metal and alloys. It uses heat
generated from friction produced by rotating tool and high axial force. This is why there have been
several trials to improve the productivity of the TIG welding. FSW was developed for
microstructural modification of metallic material This Review paper present the overview of the
effect of FSW mechanism responsible for the formation of weld, microstructure refinement, wear of
FSW tool and other mechanical properties. Knowledge base for setting basic welding parameters has
been created and comparison of a sample of plates and FSW technologies on a simple final element
method model plates examined in order to identify differences in stress distribution character in the

In addition, examples of material hardness distribution in the joint are presented, indicating their
lack of symmetry, caused by the rotational movement of the tool. In this welding process, the
friction is used to generate heat at the interference surface. For better understanding the materials
transport will be studied by the aid of scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with Energy-
dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). For this a back propagated feed forward artificial neural
network model was trained to predict the output parameters, if four input process parameters were
fed to the trained model it would provide the required output variables having values very close to
the experimental values. The present study will focus on the improvement of micro structural and
mechanical properties of the gas tungsten arc welded 2024 aluminium alloys using a novel approach

friction welded mild steel Bagus Suseno Friction welding is a solid state joining process used to join
similar and dissimilar metals, not possible with other available welding techniques. Conventional
fusion welding techniques have limitation of joining Aluminium alloys due to defects like depletion
of alloying elements, porosity, blow holes, pin holes etc. Friction stir welding has become a
alternative to the fusion welding as weld produce is free from all defects present in fusion welding.
Two fusion welding techniques was selected: arc welding and oxy-acetylene welding for the
availability of their equipment and possibility of using them outdoor. Thus, the purpose of this study
is to investigate the process-properties relationship of welded mild steel tube (SS316 L) of dissimilar
thickness by using Metal Inert Gas (MIG) orbital welding. So, it is essential to select the appropriate
combination of these speeds for weld quality or joint strength. The introduction of this paper gives a
detailed review about Friction Stir Welding of Mg alloys. Conventional fusion welding techniques
have limitation of joining Aluminium alloys due to defects like depletion of alloying elements,
porosity, blow holes, pin holes etc. Generally, as the welding current increases, hardness of the weld
increases for the two samples up to 115A and 116A for mild steel and low carbon steel respectively
but shows a decrease with a further increase in welding current. The mechanical property of the joint
was significantly affected by the tool offset and welding speed. FSP can improve surface properties
such as abrasion resistance, hardness, strength, ductility, corrosion resistance, fatigue life and
formability without affecting the bulk properties of the material. Other arc welding processes have
limited quality when they are compared to TIG welding processes. In this study friction stir welding
of aluminium alloys is selected for investigation. And at the end of the paper, the development trend
of friction stir welding is predicted. Microstruc-tural examinations conducted revealed that the
cooling rate in different media has significant effect on the microstructure of the weldment. In this
paper, effect of a longitudinal external magnetic field generated by bar magnets on the weld was
experimentally investigated. The tool rotation speed affects the intensity of plastic deformation and
through this affects material mixing. The top result is produced from sample were welded under
forging pressures 35 MPa at rotation speed 1400 rpm that is tensile strength 437,27 N. It is mostly
used in aerospace, automobile, marine and oil industries. Microstructural analysis has revealed the
formation equiaxed primary alpha with a transformed beta matrix. These zones form depending on
the thermal and mechanical deformation that the tool induces during welding.
Electron Back Scattered Diffraction (EBSD) technique will be employed to understand the nature of
TMAZ in titanium alloys. These techniques are energy efficient, economical, better than conventional
welding processes, and versatile. Demand for increasingly complex materials is growing in lockstep
with developments in conventional manufacturing methods, resulting in new metal manufacturing
breakthroughs including revolutionary welding technologies. The results of microhardness (HV) at
the nugget zone (NZ) were superior to those of thermomechanically affected zone (TMAZ), heat
affected zones (HAZ) and the base metal (BM). The comparative analysis showed the phenomenon
of the increase in weld strength along with the increase in the rotational speed of the tool during
welding. This relative movement produces friction which displaces material plastically on contact
surface. Therefore, the FSW of dissimilar Al alloy combinations has gained attention over the recent
years, demonstrating the potential of the process to join these. Friction Stir Welding is the most
remarkable welding technology that has been invented and developed in last two decades. For this
variety of welding experiments were carried out. Download Free PDF View PDF See Full PDF

alloys is not suitable due to its high affinity towards oxygen. Now a day’s Friction welding is most
commonly used in industry that is aeronautical engineering, automobile engineering, submarine
industry and heavy industry. Friction stir welding is preferred for joining these materials as it is a
solid state forge welding process and problems related with welding of such can be subdued through
this process. FSW has many advantages when welding magnesium or lightweight alloys. The wear
properties were also analyzed using pin and disk apparatus. This method is used in high strength
aluminium alloy aerospace components and high temperature alloy metals which are hard to join by
traditional fusion welding method. Journal papers published on FSW of dissimilar Al alloy joints.

including metal flow and thermal history, before discussing how process parameters affect the weld
microstructure and the likelihood of defects. The weld metal micro structural characterization studies
revealed that the friction stir processing was controlled or decreased the amount of porosities and
micro cracks formation. Hardness of FSW copper weld zone mainly depended on the density of
dislocation rather than grain size. Multiple requests from the same IP address are counted as one
