Accumulator

On the pressureline of the pump a hydropneumatic

accumulator is installed for energy storage.
The accumulator is a device specially designed for
storage of liquid (in this case oil) under pressure and
works on the principal of the compressibility of gasses.
The accumulator consists of a pressure vessel (shell)
with a hydraulic connection in witch a flexible separator
bladder is fitted.
Through a special valve (5/8” UNF connection) an inert
gas (nitrogen) is introduced to the bladder at a specific
precharge pressure.
On the bottom of the shell an anti extrusion valve is 1.9 Accumulator
Mounted to prevent the bladder from extruding into the
Fluid port.

Whenever the hydraulic pressure is higher than the precharge pressure of the gas hydraulic oil enters
the accumulator thus compressing the gasses in the bladder until both pressures are balanced.
This way a volume of oil is stored under pressure.
Whenever the system pressure drops when for example the directonal valve is operated with no or low
system load the opposite happens and the accumulator can feed the system, in this case to speed up
the movement of the FMS cylinders.

The HKB3 accumulator is precharged at 870 PSI [60 Bar] witch is about 90% of the lowest
systempressure of 1.000 PSI [69 Bar]
The nominal size of the accumulator is 25L.
When the accumulator is fully at a pressure of 2.750 PSI [190 Bar] it contains an oilvolume of about 4.5
Gallon. [17L]
This is enough for one and a half FMS cycle. (slips down/slips up)
However one should take in account that when the accumulator delivers oil the pressures (both fluid an
gas) drop and it takes time for the relative low power air driven pump to fill up the accumulator to the
begin level.
This means total cycle time depents the pumpflow and the needed oil pressures.

The nitrogen precharge pressure can be controlled and altered with a special pre-loading and checking
set.

Pressure reliefvalve

The pressure relief valve is mounted in line with the

accumulator and acts like a safety device to prevent the
pressure in the accumulator to rise above the valve setting.
If so the oil is relief toward the oiltank.
The reliefvalve is set at a pressure of 2900 PSI. [200 Bar]
This pressuresetting of the valve must be slightly higher than
the maximum pressure the pump can deliver to prevent
unnessecairy powerdestruction and thus heat build up.
