Nutrition Food Tests

Objective: To test for starch, sugar, protein, and lipids

Materials

- Solution A (water), solution B, Solution C, solution D, solution E, Iodine solution


- Test tubes, Test tube holder, Test tube rack, 5% sodium hydroxide solution, 1% copper sulphate solution,
Heater, Benedict’s solution, Ethanol, Dropper, Filter paper, Measuring cylinder, small beakers, Glass rods.

Question 1.1 Draw and describe the starch structure.


1.2 Which of its structural feature is important to the color change in iodine test?
1.3 What is the composition of iodine?
1.4 How does color change takes place in the iodine test?

Question 2.1 State the principle of Benedict’s test on sugar.


2.2 What is the function of copper sulphate in Benedict’s Solution?

Question 3.1 What is the Biuret?
