Teacher Leadership & Deeper Learning for All Students: Berry (2016) explored the need for all

students to take part in deeper learning. The setting was the everyday classroom. The findings
were that the more students participating in deep learning causes everyone to benefit and
disadvantaged students to succeed more often. The authors suggested to form innovative ways
to connect with students and help everyone be part of the learning ecosystem. This literature is
related to CSTP 5 in that it promotes generating lesson plans and various activities that help
students with various backgrounds and ability levels to come together and take part of deep
learning. As a teacher leader, this article reminds me that I should always make sure everyone is
part of the lesson and truly understands the content and connects with their peers.

What Does the Research Tell Us About Teacher Leadership?: The Center for Comprehensive
School Reform and Improvement (2005) explored/examined the need for teacher leadership in
the United States. Data drew from a large library of educational writing and numerous small
studies. The findings were that teacher leadership is becoming necessary in this era of teaching.
The authors suggested examining the qualities that lead to successful teacher leadership and
promoting these teachers to rise in influence. This literature is related to CSTP 6 in that it
promotes reflection and improvement of oneself and other colleagues after thoughtful
discussion. As a teacher leader, this paper/report reminds me that I should always look for ways
to be a teacher leader and better my own curriculum.

Compare/Contrast Articles: These two articles suggest that becoming teacher leader and
diversifying your curriculum to meet all students’ needs is important. However, whereas Berry
of the first article recommends that helping all students reach deeper learning is essential, The
Center for Comprehensive School Reform and Improvements’ second article recommend the
teacher taking large steps and becoming a teacher leader and a positive influence. As a teacher
leader, these articles helped evolve my perspective on how to develop effective learning for
everyone in the classroom.
