We chose to perform an experiment on decantation and filtration.

Before conducting the experiment, we first decided to choose a material that was
easily accessible without any cost.
The materials we use for filtering are sand, water, empty plastic containers and
cloth to filter water and sand.
And now we prepare the sand-water mixture in a plastic container.
Filtration is done by placing a clean cloth over a clean, empty plastic
container.
The sand-water mixture is poured through the fabric, allowing the water to pass
through while retaining the sand on the fabric for filtration.
And in the decanting process as well as in the filtration process, we use empty
plastic containers, sand and water.
We have prepared a mixture of sand and water ready to separate.
After that, we also prepare another empty plastic container to transfer water
into.
Decanting is done by letting the sand particles settle to the bottom of a plastic
container while carefully pouring the water into another container.
And during testing, we found that Decanting: This was relatively quick, taking
about 30 seconds depending on how much we used.
However, a small amount of sand was lost during the casting process.
Filtration: Although slightly slower, taking about a minute, filtration results in
cleaner separations with minimal sand loss.
To explain further Decantation and filtration have been shown to be effective in
separating sand from water.
The decanting process is faster but results in the loss of some sand particles due
to dumping.
On the other hand, the filtration process is slower but allows cleaner separation
with negligible sand loss.
The choice between these methods may depend on the specific requirements of the
experiment or on practical considerations such as time constraints and the need to
minimize material losses.
In summary, the experiment has demonstrated the effectiveness of sedimentation and
filtration techniques to separate sand from water.
Each method has advantages and limitations, and the choice should be based on
desired results and practical considerations.
